T-Mobile GPRS and Motorola V300

I have a Motorola V300 that I'm using with T-mobile. I just switched from Sprint, so far so good.

But I noticed that the GPRS icon at the top of the display never comes on when I'm accessing T-zones. Also, compared to using mobile web (WAP) browser on my old, old, Sprint phone the v300 is just as slow (as best I can tell).

T-mobile customer service told me that if I'm using T-zones then GPRS must be being used and I shouldn't worry that the icon isn't displayed. They said if GPRS wasn't working I wouldn't be able to accessing the web, email etc.

But... I'm wondering why the phone isn't telling me its using GPRS. Does my browser have the wrong connection info, is this a phone bug, programming problem or what?

The only data network TMobile has is GPRS. If you are connecting then it is working.
