Are current customers eligible for this $130 instant rebate? I've had service for more than 12 months now and I've never upgraded...But I need to! 🙂

No instant rebate. You would get the phone at $149.99 then get the mail-in rebate.

Yeah, but that rebate brings the price down to 74.99, which is 25.00 better than best possible price under the old upgrade schedule. I can't wait, I'm eligible for upgrade in a couple weeks, and I think this is my new phone. 😁

You know, for the exact same price you could get a Nokia 6610... not as much eye candy as the X105, but a MUCH better phone in terms of features and performance.

Yeah, I know, but I'm just not crazy about the feel of the Nokias and I and many of my friends have empirically established that Samsungs beat Nokias for reception in our area. I've had the R225 for a year and I love it--just want the TZones and color screen... and I have a thing for blue... 😉

As I said, the eye candy on the Samsung is much more appealing, but better reception than a Nokia? I have a hard time believing that. Tell yourself WHATEVER you want to justify the cuter phone. 😉

Please note that I stated "in my area." I have friends with Samsungs and Nokias and considering that most of us are or were driving for a living we've had ample opportunity to stress test reception over a wide area and under varied conditions, and the Samsungs win out around here. Also, the Samsungs fit into my pockets better due to their shape, which matters a LOT on a ten mile hike! 😁

Hey, I'll take your word for it. The Samsungs have excellent RF also, but I'm curious about what would make them actually perform better than Nokias just in certain areas... but you are right about the shape of the phone. The X105 does have a nice, small, rounded shape that feels nice in your pocket.

Hilly topography and some weird weather aspects--anything with an exterior antenna tends to work better around where I live. I have to try the X105 in my Levi's--the R225 fits into the silly little coin pocket perfectly and doesn't fall out...

The X105 will fit the same, it has the same exact body shape as the R225, minus the antenna. We sell customers R225 cases and stuff when we run out of the accessories for the X105. Other than the antenna, the only difference is that the X105 has volume controls on the side and a directional pad instead of the up and down arrow keys that the R225 has.
As for reception...Nokias are usually going to beat any other handset in terms of indoor coverage but Samsungs tend to do better outdoors in varying terrains. I say this because the only phones that get a decent signal in our store are Nokias, everything else is choppy.
Personally I'd go with the Nokia over the Samsung because there's just something about Samsung's menus that I don't like (can...

Thanks for the input--I know it's silly to care about fit in a pocket, but I hike a lot and I want my phone with me for emergencies. I agree about the outdoor reception thing, but since I mostly use my phone outdoors that's the big factor for me. In my house I'm right near a tower and as long as I'm not in my kitchen (with three stucco walls between me and the tower!) my reception is just fine... I'm more concerned about dropped calls while travelling around, and the Samsungs hang onto a signal in the darnedest places... I find the menus very intuitive, with Nokia second for ease of use--Motorola phones have the stupidest, weirdest menu layouts I've ever seen, they drive me nuts troubleshooting them!

Have to agree with you there...Motorolas are straight up garbage when it comes to usability and all around quality.

BTW, I do have to say that the X105 is probably my favorite Samsung. The only problem I encountered with it when I tested one out was that the CLR key is very close to the 2, thus I kept accidentally clearing stuff when I was writing an sms. Other than that, it's a solid, quality phone. I usually recommend it to customers who are interested in E105s but don't want to spend the $$ for that phone, the X105 does all the same stuff, same interface/menu, etc.

Get it, you should be really happy with it.

If it's any consolation for any of you who didn't get a rebate, be it instant or otherwise, I got my X105 upgrade for $74.99 (prior to rebate) and then a $75.00 mail in rebate. Hence, a solid free phone. Please see your local Car Toys retail store for details on how to do the upgrade.

I had a v60g (another Moto a$$crap phone) and must say the service is better with this unit. 😉

get it at a Wireless Retail location such as Sam's club. Right now the X105 there is $40 and there's a $75 mail in rebate with a qualifying plan of $39.99 or higher.

You end up netting $35 in your pocket.

Also.. till march 31st, the 2nd x105 is completely free AND you get the $75 mail in rebate with it.. on qualifying family plans $69.99 and higher

You end up paying $40 and you get $150 back in rebates. You simply CAN'T beat that!
