New Upgrade Scheme

pranu

So as per tmobilerep's post a couple of days back I checked with T-Mo and basically as an upgrade a customer can get any phone that T-Mo offers at the same rate as new customers from their website (after rebate - just like new customers).

Now while that is fantastic here is my question - will "dealers" such as amazon be able to offer upgrades with their discounts?

This is awesome news! That has been my biggest beef with the upgrade system altogether. Why should someone that has been with their service have to pay more for a new phone than a new customer who may or may not be happy and leave the service. I am really excited about this as I want to see what the cost of the T630 will be when they finally come out with it. Either that or the new Motorola E380 i think it was. I want a bluetooth phone with a camera and some good sound options on it. The other feature that looks inviting although im still debating whether it will be useful is the Wireless Village app that is to come with the T630. Sounds great and all but it will only work with people that have that app which i don't think will be a w...

Yeah - but I still don't want to pay those high prices.

I want prices that amazon.com offers for my upgrade. :-D

Anyway so I am currently in the process of trying the following and will let you know if I succeed.

I currently have a phone in the name of my cousin.
I have two goals - One - get the line into my name. Two - Get an updated phone at as low a price as possible.

One - requires me to sign a new contract (with no phone)
Two - I will have to spend 99.99 (after rebate) to get the T610 (best phone with T-Mo as of now)

So instead what I am doing is

A. Getting a new line from Amazon (on T-Mo) in my cousin's wives name.
B. Once that is active will ask them if they can switch the numbers on the two lines in the family ...

I actually wouldn't recommend the T610 (or any ericsson for that matter)....that model has a lot of software issues that go along with it.

Nearly all the T610's I've sold through Tmob have been returned due to "poor reception". This is what EVERY customer tells me. And this is in South Florida where Tmob coverage is great. And as for the T226...I watched a girlfriend throw it at the wall in frustration over its crapiness.

wow.

there can't be that much of a dif in the rf between the t610 & the t616 but like i said i've got both the t616 & t226 and both get great reception. and atm the t226 is the free phone we are giving out and the worst thing i've been hearing about it is the size, no complaints about reception.

Strange.

I guess it's due to different markets? Location is everything I'm assuming.

are you being sarcastic when you say the t610 is the best T-Mobile phone??

that phone has so many software issues its rediculous and the reception quality can't even compare to the simply basic samsung r225. get a nokia or a samsung phone. if you need bluetooth and a camera get the motorolla v300, even though it has a known issue of randomly shutting itself off, it's feature rich and that appears to be what you're looking for.

also.. why are you so worried about the contract.. it's only for a year. I can't say I know even one individual that drops a hundred bucks on a phone and doesn't want it a year later. You've already been using T-mobile's service so you already know the quality of the network so what gives?

Best phone - I guess is a personal choice of what makes it best.

I can see your point about certain phones having better characteristics and from my personal requirements - cosmetic as well as functional I feel that phone will serve me well for the next 6 months before I switch perhaps to the Nokia 6230.

As for the contract - I have no hassles with signing up another year as long as I can get as a good deal as any other person.

I never said I don't want to sign the contract. All I ask is that when I sign a contract I want to get as good a deal as Mr. John Doe who signs up as a new customer and signs the EXACT same contract. So I am only trying to work the system to get what i would consider a fair treatment. If John Doe can sign u...

I've never understood T-mobile's practice of giving new customers better deals than older customers.

I've been with T-mobile for 3 or more years now, and it pisses me off that I can not get a better deal than the over priced phones they offer. Furthermore even with the discount towards an upgrade the price is still more than the regular price of the phone with new service.

My unhappiness with the selection of phones and the up grade process may cause me to take my business to another service provider and get a better phone than the those offered by T-mobile at a better price

Trust me, it's no better anywhere else. AT&T does the same thing, and with Verizon I had to beg them to let me...

Hey Guy, READ YOUR CONTRACT it says "you acknowledge that your initial unit purchase may be subsidized to facilitate your subscription to the service" When you started service your phone was cheap or free so you would start service, but with the upgrade program you don't have to pay the activation fee. Realize that the phones we offer are not cheap even the lower priced phone still are about $130 with no contract extension. If you don't like the prices and you want to go to another provider do them a favor, instead of just seeing "FREE PHONE YAY", read the damn contract first!

First of all, T-Mobile's handsets are reasonably priced, and are some of the nicest handsets that any provider offers (especially the Samsung E105 and the Nokia 6610, you can't go wrong with either). The way you have to look at it is that you got an REALLY REALLY AWESOME deal when you were a new customer to snag you... now you you are just getting a good deal to continue service. You really aren't getting screwed, because the actual full cost of a handset is still being subsidized significantly. Before you start whining try looking and seeing what actual FULL retail price of a handset is.

No, more like biased commision grubbing jerk! You hear horror stories about AT&T Wireless Care? HAHAHAHA! I have to deal with all of your screw ups on a daily basis. Sheesh!

Sorry, thats a generalization I know, but don't attack other companies and say you're unbiased. 😛

as far as amazon goes.. that's on their end, not t-mobile. Amazon want's their commission. That's how they make money from selling phones. ALL companies will only get commisson for signing up a new customer. If amazon isn't going to get paid by extending your contract, why should they take a hit and sell you a new phone at the same price they'd charge someone that is actually going to make them money?

I work for an indirect dealer and I have found out that if you go though the corporate store you get new cust. prices plus mail in rebates. In about 3 or 4 months the indirect dealers will be offering the same thing. We are the only company that has a good upgrade program. I have sold for every other carrier and cingular adds about 50 to 100 dollars to the price of a new act.. All carriers upgrade programs suck. At least t-Mobile is trying to improve theirs. If you have had the other carriers you will find out that the service is no where close to the same as t-Mobile.
