NO ONE CAN ANSWER MY QUESTIONS!!!!!

I am considering switching to TMO from AT&T. I am interested in the MyTouch 4G phone. I have asked reps questions and keep getting different answers. I see there is a $70 prepaid plan with unlimited text/talk and 2G of data. Coming from AT&T they highest data allotment they over is 2G….so this plan is AMAZING. My question was, what is the major diff between being on a TMO prepaid vs Postpaid plan. With AT&T prepaid you ONLY have access to AT&T towers period. I am told TMO lets you roam and use gives you the EXACT same network access as on their postpaid plans. NOW another rep tells me on the new prepaid plans you do not get 4G or 3G access, you are restricted to the EDGE network (2G) . I hate 20 answers for the same question?...

for what you want to do on the phone...i alway reccomend people to go no contract or contract and they end happy goin either way. if you need unlimited and you dont mind paying full price for a phone go no contract...if you can get buy with 1500 minutes go with the contract and save on the cost of the phone.

But about the question of same coverage...is that true or not? I also may want to add the tethering option in the future to use my phone's hotspot abilities so I know for that reason alone I would need post-paid

I'm a store manager, and I can guarantee you that you ONLY GET ACCESS TO T-MOBILE'S TOWERS IF YOU ARE ON PREPAID. That is one of several disadvantages to prepaid vs postpaid.

OK Store Manager...When did T-Mobile build out their network in Alaska?

It's on the prepaid coverage map.

Ok, I needed to go check in Streamline to see if the policy has changed. And I will admit, the policy has changed. The prepaid page was updated 11/15/2010 and prepaid DOES include domestic roaming now. When I started 4 years ago and went through training it definetly did not, but its a good move that T-Mobile added it. So, yes, I stand corrected. ant1171984, I don't think coverage is an issue anymore if you do decide to go the prepaid route!

Thanks for this clarification. So really the only disadvantage would be having to pay upfront for a phone? well that and 2G max data?

I'm gonna say its 3G. I'm looking around Streamline (our internal info site) at everything related to prepaid data, and nowhere does it say that its restricted to 2G only. Therefore, I'm going to assume that this supposed restriction is false. If there were a restriction, it would definetly have been been documented. Plus, our prepaid mobile broadband is 3G, so why not the phones, it wouldn't make any sense.

Yes you should. The "4G" network as advertised isn't true "4G", it's HSPA+ 21 Mbps which is currently providing the fast data services in the USA by any carrier that I am aware of.

Don't dilute the message. That would be like Obi Wan telling the storm trooper "These are not the droids you are looking for." Only to have C3PO pipe up saying: "Yes we are!"

prepaid and postpaid or flexpay can use all of the networks. theres no restriction to that. in prepaid, u have to buy the phone for full price because u are not required to sign up for a contract.. with postpaid/fp, if u get a contract and are approved for it, u can get a big big discount on the phones

Incorrect, Prepaid your roaming is restricted to ONLY T-mobile towers. Post paid/Flex pay accounts can bounce off other carriers towers.

You are the one who is incorrect. You should have read the rest of the post. PREPAID COVERAGE = POSTPAID COVERAGE. It was already settled!

Well i believe prepaid is only on tmobile towers. In the T&C in prepaid it says prepaid roamin is restricted to the tmobile network. So if your in a roaming area technically thats not tmobile's network just agreements with that local provider to use their network.

Have a look at the website compare the prepaid coverage map to the post paid coverage map.

I don't know how so many people can have incorrect information.

TMOrep03 is correct.

T-Mobiles Terms & Conditions state, "Roaming is restricted to the T-Mobile Prepaid network which includes roaming in Canada and Mexico."

The confusion here I think is that only some of the roaming agreements for post paid are accessible by prepaid. I check coverage 20+ times a day and there are some areas that prepaid cannot roam and some that it can.

I have never heard of the edge restriction and definitely don't believe it to be true. That was probably just told to you by someone who didn't have a 3g capable device. Like the BB Curve 8520.

It's better to do flex pay monthly than to go Prepaid. Why? Because you get the same plans as a regular contract (including unlimited text and data), you just pay upfront and for the phone at full retail.

Go to a store and say you want "FLEXPAY-U"

That means your on a flexpay non contracted account. They don't run your credit, no contract, rate plans are less expensive, pay full retail for phone.

But if you did that you can't take advantage of the "4G/HSPA+" Web. You would be stuck with the 3G.
