T-mobile coverage quality worse?

FIN

Jul 10, 2010, 9:14 PM
I live in Colorado, I had t-mobile back in 05 till 07. It was pretty decent, since than I returned 6 months ago, and the coverage seems to be worse than it was before. I am dropping calls and not get 3G coverage where it says I should be getting.

Anyone else getting this in other parts on the country including Colorado?

Thanks.

I actually have amazingly strong coverage with T-mo from Denver north to Fort Collins area. I'm not sure what part of CO that you're in bu I've actually experienced the opposite.

Are you up in the mountains by chance? Just so you know, there can be problems in your actual sim or phone that can cause signal to be less than it should so make sure to give customer care a call to check signal.

I am in North Denver. Its okay, but North Boulder where I work is horrible. Very weak 3G. Might be it just worked better in the city and no so much rural areas.

I've noticed that T-Mobile has been canceling it's roaming agreements with AT&T and overbuilding with their own towers.

On occasion they have canceled the roaming agreements a little too early and people lose their coverage for a little while.

Maybe that's whats going on.

might be. That could be it. I have noticed a big difference in quality in my area since 06.

I actually left tmobile this past april cuz of the reasons your having. I had them since 1999 and it seemed the last year the service has gotten worse. And I had tried numerous phones as well and the same service. Dropped calls, no 3g or even Edge at times, or ppl calling me and I had no missed call. Even my other friends who live in different parts of Texas here say the same. I chose ATT and its not that much different. So I am debating on Sprint or Verizon.

I say you give Sprint a try they have a 30day guarantee no company can compete with right now and coverage in Texas is the best. To top it all off Texas has the most 4g cites out of any state period! And once you go to Verizon they will have u locked in with a very high Etf and there monthly bills are outrageous. I recommend the Evo if you can get your hands on one or the The Epic 4g! 😎

Yeah and no body can touch your awesome customer service too. No carrier can suck that bad... Your "4g" if you want to call it that isn't fast... Tmo's 3g is faster... I'll bet that hurts... Just sayin' 🤭

Yup, WiMax maxes out at what, 14mbps? HSPA+ is at 21mbps. That's 50% faster. The 4G tag for WiMax is just to lure in the fools that say "Oh its got a 4 in front of the G, that means its better! Derp!" Not to mention that Sprint and Clear have both said they are NOT committed to WiMax and are open to the possibility of LTE...
And I believe in good customer service, and Sprint just doesn't have it, sorry.

Being a customer with both I'm happier with Sprint simply because they have way better 3G coverage then T-mo and better voice coverage. I will say T-mobiles customer service seems more helpful and friendly though.

I think there is a misunderstanding here,
In Philadelphia HSPA+ was on par with Clear's service.
HSPA will burst at 21mbps which means it is capable of that on a dormant network. The Philly tests were not based on a busy network which as you know slows data speeds as the bandwidth gets shared.

WIMAX (802.16e) will burst at 40mbps. Many markets will see constant speeds in excess of 20mbps (Portland, Seattle and Las Vegas) in much of the market.
WIMAX 802.16m will be available next year which will allow bursts up to 1gbps.

WIMAX is a worldwide standard unless Asia and North America are not included in the world.
Clear/Sprint is installing LTE in order to do 2 things; to make data roaming revenue on competitors because they already...

um actually every actual real world test that ive see hspa+ owns sprints wimax coverage. it holds a better connection and faster download/much faster upload speeds....real world is all that matters friend 🙂

When I was talking about real world I was talking about LTE, which is not commercially available yet. So it is theoretical.
HSPA+ comparisons to WIMAX were only in the Philadelphia market. Comparisons are not on a busy HSPA+ channel of a mature product with broad usage.
Here in the Northwest we often get up to 20mbps on the WIMAX in different parts of the market. I don't know what was going on in Philly at the time for Clear but WIMAX has more capabilities than any 3g product. HSPA+ is a great product offering but it is pretty much dead ended, meaning there are no upgrades planned or possible.
Real world HSPA+ speeds were about 6-8mbps from the tests. My WIMAX averages between 6-12mbps and I am on the fringe of the WIMAX coverage area. ...

yes i know LTE is only theoretical. LOL I i wasn't talking about that at all. What i was talking about were the "hspa+ 21 mbps" and "sprints 40mbps on there current wimax network" and the "1gb when their network gets up graded" that you'll never see. Those speeds are theoretical speeds.

Ive personally never seen a speed test where sprints wimax hit 20mbps but thats cool...what i was talking about were the averages that you quoted. "TMO 6-8 mbps" and "sprints 6-12" which with sprints Ive seen it average more on the side of 6-8 and rarely hit 9-14 range.
So i personally think they're more equals than anything as far as speed. However Ive seen sprints wimax not hold as good of a signal as t -mobiles hspa+ and again that just from my per...

I too have noticed that the quality of coverage is declining. I live and work in NYC I have very little coverage at work and almost no 3G. At home I get intermittent 3G. I have missed calls that never register as missed calls and to top it all off when I called customer service to complain they told me that there was very strong 3G coverage in my area. If that is so then why do I ALWAYS have a problem with data and often have problems with calls. I have a my touch 3g slide that I paid for outright and I am so disappointed by my inability to use all of the features. I also have a Blackberry 8530 through Verizon and I get emails there several minutes before they register on the my touch (if they register at all). So what's the deal with this?...

Is it the quality of the network or the new handsets? I'm more inclined to blame the new handsets. People now expect much more than common phone calls and texts. Case in point is my troubles with a My Touch 3G. It doesn't work at home PERIOD. Plug it into a dinosaur (Nokia 3390) and it works like a charm.

That's a pretty good point, the older and less feature-rich phones tend to get better service, especially those Nokias.

The old Nokia phones did everything asked of them. They had forever for battery life and held onto a signal no matter what the circumstances. Today I don't get the same results even with the same manufacturer. Maybe if we demanded signal strength above all the toys manufacturers would put out a better product.

Unfortunately we like our toys as is evidenced by the i-Phone. In major cities those things are paperweights from 5:00 to 6:00 due to an overloaded network. Still the sheep flock to AT&T to get their new toy.

Hi,

I have had t-mobile for several years and I can say the signal quality is really bad. They are getting worse. I live in a pretty busy area outside Boston Massachusetts and I get at least 4 to 5 drop calls just driving home. I've tried different phones and they all drop - I like their plan but I'm going to have to drop them. I'm concerned the company is crashing like their cell coverage.

tmobile is not committed to their US business and just holding on till someone buys them. Sprint most likely. I know look what happen with nextel. But GSM is better then IDEN first and many phones can be made that use both if they choose or they have to switch to LTE sometime they already hinted at that so it would be good for them to convert that spectrum to lte. They already have the most spectrum of any carrier.

This weekend was horrible, could not hold a call and took many attempts to make a call at home. Same with my wives cell as well. Called T-Mobile, they said it looked like it was network issue, had me put my MT3G on 2G only. Bam, my calls were working again. They said they would send someone out to look at the towers near my home.

She told to put it back to 3G in 72 hours and see if the problem still exists. I am wondering if they are doing upgrades to the network (HSPA+) and that is maybe why I was having problems with 3G voice (UMTS?).

I had some other friend who said they were also having issues around Denver making and receiving calls on 3G, but when they went to 2G, it seemed to fix the issue.

Very interesting to see what h...

Yeah, who wouldn't? I mean, what other company was still charging for roaming in 2008 like Alltel was?

another miss informed guy. Alltel was charging for roaming in areas that sprint or verizon had no service. I rather have the ability to roam and pay in a very small percentage of the country and have a paper weight.
