Sayonara T-Mobile!

After 6 years of being with a Carrier that till date, is still building its way up the ladder especially when you consider that all the other Big Carriers out there (AT&T, VZW and Sprint - Nextel) in the competition are already at a 3G or greater network, I have finally taken action on my promises time and again and ported my service to AT&T on Friday, the same day on which my Contract was up with T-Mobile.

I will agree that T-Mobile "may have" deserved the best ratings in the area of Customer Service when they are approached for resolving any outstanding issues the customer faces but their network (both coverage quantitatively as well as the nature of it (i.e., 3G vs. EDGE)) was the real deciding factor. I am also able to get better (...

I don't need luck in regards to my serivce. I have excellent service with T-Mobile and have never looked back on other carriers. I had AT&T before and did not enjoy it. They are extremely expensive with data and signal was hit or miss. I love my G1 and 3G services work great where I live. As far as increasing data rates, it was just bundled with messaging, it is still the same price per month and still $15-$25 cheaper than AT&T.

Each person has different experiences with mobile phones. Yours was bad but mines is great. To each his own.

Hey, quit knocking the G1. You must not be very tech savy if you had so many problems with it. I have the G1 and it works great. Yes, tmobile is just starting up with their 3G but it works well on edge & great on wifi. The phone has great reception in all areas I go to. Your experience is different since you live in a different area.

I have had At&t for several years before switching to Tmobile. My calls don't get dropped now & they are actually go through the first try. At&t's 3G has many holes in it. For how long it has been out it should not be that way.

Rollover minutes? What a joke! If you are getting them every month you a on the wrong plan. Oh, and they expire in a year from the time you get them. Also, change you ...

Really? The most basic purpose of using a cell phone is to make calls? How silly of me I never knew that!!! 😲 Your situation is different than mine. I can tell you where I live (Houston) I have enjoyed my services with T-Mobile for almost 4 years. I can not recall an instance where I dropped a call with them, with 3G or EDGE. You don't need messaging, BUT I DO!!! I send text and pics to family and friends, so bundle text and data and I'm paying $50 a month with AT&T? I'm getting the same services for half that. Rollover? It's a joke to me. If I'm rolling over my minutes, I'm on the wrong plan and paying too much. With MyFaves, I can call my contacts for as much as I with it, I don't over my minutes so Rollover is a moot issue in my situati...

AT&T is actually far more expensive than T-Mobile when you take into consideration how much you spend for data and the minutes.

For instance, the cheapest plan on AT&T with rollover is 39.99 for 450 minutes and 5,000 night and weekend minutes...

Now, maybe it's just me, but I think getting 5 numbers to call as much as I want (via T-Mobile's MyFaves 300 plan) plus 300 additional minutes and UNLIMITED nights and weekends greatly outweighs paying the same price for limited minutes that you could far more easily go over with AT&T.

And if you aren't using myFaves, T-Mobile also offers 600 anytime minutes, 150 more than AT&T, PLUS unlimited nights and weekends.

And let's not forget the 9.99 for unlimited Wi-Fi calling, something AT&T s...

the G1 does not have uma technology, therefore it is not able to make phone calls using wifi, hence it would be pointless to add the 9.99 feature...Another thing, the g1 does not yet have the ability to use the phone as a modem right out of the box, so you would be unable to thether it unless you did some home-brewing and hacked the device which has not been done yet.

There is software/hacks/homebrew available for the G1 to tether it to your computer. Its was possible like a week after the phone came out.

Yep! And it'll be a better seller than that book written by one former Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton too. The title? Why I Think T-Mobile is not the least expensive wireless phone service provider! 😈

should of went with verizon if you care about 3g and (future) 4g coverage. VZW > at&t > Tmobile when it comes to network for both voice and data.

Omnia > iphone and g1 combined.

Windows Mobile is terrible. I used to work for Verizon, and I agree that their network is the best of the bunch. The phones suck though. I used to think like you, wondering what everyone was complaining about. Now that I'm using GSM phones with actual third party support, I realize what I was missing out on with Verizon. So no thanks. I won't pick a different phone.

I left T-Mobile for AT&T two years ago (after having them for four years). I had a brief stint with Verizon, but switched back to AT&T. They are pretty decent. T-Mobile is good too, but only if you are in an area where they have great coverage.

You could say that again! I've had personal experience from the G1 on 3G and it wasn't pretty. The only really decent coverage T-Mobile has in the Dallas Market is EDGE, that's about it. If the price plans for voice are one and the same or in close vicinity, then it's a no-brainer.

So far I'll say my return to AT&T is better than it was in the last go around when I had them in 2002 prior to coming to T-Mobile. That said, T-Mobile ...

I wouldn't say they're in over their heads. First of all, you can't please everyone no matter how hard you try. 2nd, no carrier has the most amazing coverage everywhere. I guarantee you there are areas in the country where T-Mobile has excellent coverage and AT&T does not and the same goes for every single other carrier out there. I'm not saying T-Moblie doesn't have opportunities...They do. But you act like these are opportunities that absolutely must exist everywhere and they're happening to everyone, which they're not. If they were, T-Mobile wouldn't continue to grow in customer base. I understand perception is key and yours is they've failed you a cell phone company but fortunately that doesn't happen to everyone.

I never understood the whole "I have 550 minutes so I have to use them all or I feel like I'm wasting minutes" deal.

Musta sucked when you had "unlimited minutes" on your landline, huh? Or TV watching. I pay for cable tv, I might as well sit on my butt all day and all night watching it so I don't waste my money.

Well understand this....

On any service you subscribe to, be it Satellite or Cable TV, Internet or even wireline phone service, YOU CAN NEVER USE THE WHOLE UNLIMITED SERVICE PROVIDED TO YOU ON ANY OF THESE! It really doesn't take a genius to figure that out! No disrespect to you Shellis129 but this really should be obvious by now. I have seen this argument on these forums a...

Freedom of Speech sir! Not much anyone can do to strip me of that right. The U.S. Constitution is a beautiful thing! 😎

And besides, I am not happy with them right now but if you even remotely read my original posting, I did say that if T-Mobile's 3G coverage improves qualitatively (from voice call quality perspective) as well as quantitatively (overall coverage area perspective), then I would consider a return. So I don't understand why you think I am totally turned off by T-Mobile when my words clearly demonstrate that IT'S NOT WORKING OUT FOR THE IMMEDIATE TIME.

No.

First of all, this has nothing to do with freedom of speech. I'm not trying to silence you. I'm asking you why you're being such a drama queen about the whole thing.

Secondly, no one cares what would bring you back to T-Mobile. You were unhappy, and you left. End of story. Except that in your case, it isn't the end of the story. You feel the need to make a big scene about it. That's my question which went unanswered. I've left cell phone carrier in the past without mucking around and continuing to voice my opinion about that carrier. Why do you keep coming back here?

I think we all understand that T-Mobile didn't work out for you, just as AT&T didn't work out for me three years ago or Verizon five years ago. But you don't see me going into those forums and complaining that AT&T kept dropping calls every five minutes, or that Verizon's overpriced.

T-Mobile is just like any other carrier. They don't work everywhere. I'm sure they'd be glad to have you back as a customer when they get better at 3G coverage, but you have to understand that they haven't been able to launch 3G until this year, so there are bound to be a few bugs and bad spots to begin with. Patience is a virtue.

We all know that you think AT&T is cheaper, which is does seem to be the case for you. Great. Leave it at that and move o...
