3g Launch Markets

As discussed during the weekly Operations Call, our drive to 3G is on fast-forward, providing a platform for network efficiency and setting the stage for future innovations that will give customers new and exciting ways to stay connected to those who matter most.
The roll-out of our next generation UMTS network starts in New York City in May. Then we launch our next 25 markets by the end of the year. Below is a list of those targeted markets.

Can anyone tell me if I live 1 hour North of Miami in Palm Beach am I still considered in the Miami market? I would hope so because the Miami market is high up on this list! Any insight into this question would be greatly appreciated!

I would go into your local T-mobile COR store and ask one of the reps, they should know. My store is about an hour and half from LA and are considered part of the LA market.

I'm not sure how you obtained that information, but it hasn't been officially annouched anwyhere yet. Some of those cities are kinda odd, like new england.
I'm hopeful that's what they end up launching initially though. At this point we are all just taking your word for it. why can't they tell me this information though!

This came from my old Divisional Manager who was recently promoted to VP of the Western US. She likes to keep us in the loop of whats going on, now that she has access to much more info. Most T-Mobile retail/care reps wont know this, unless they are retail in the Southwest. I just wanted to share this info with Phonescoop users.

You should be more careful about how much information you give out about yourself, who you are, where you are, and etc. I'm not the type to say anything but I'm sure there are people on here who work for T-Mobile that are highly placed and I'm also sure it wouldn't be too hard to figure out which employee you are considering how much you just gave out. Just some food for thought and a recommendation.

It wouldnt be that sensitive information if it was sent to every rep in the entire southwest(and possibly more markets). When the peons know, everyone knows!

I know for sure LA, Miami and New York. I would think most major metroplitan markets would get it. If this is infact a internal email you should be very careful about posting here your old manager and you could get in alot of trouble for posting sensitive documents here.

I have been reviewing a few of your forums and it seems as if you have more of an insight than majority of the people here. Most likely due to the fact that your previous manager is now a VP im figuring. So, i have a question for you, I would like to know why T-Mobile is running behing on everything? They just recently released 3g yesterday (May 5) and their not being very competitive with other carriers as far as phones go. I currently have T-Mobile and the customer service is great but I love having a variety of interesting gadgets on my phones and like to have the most updated phones. Please give me some insight on why they dont have a better selection of phones. Mainly the PDA's.

Lack of handsets especially in PDA's? T-Mobile currently offers 11 different PDA handsets ranging from several different kinds of Blackberries, Sidekicks, and HTC models.
Lack of 3G? T-Mobile didn't have the spectrum to launch 3G until 2006 and this was achieved by participating in the AWS auction with the FCC. It requires A LOT of spectrum to be able to offer 3G data services. Even though T-Mobile acquired this in 2006, the government didn't even start to stop using this spectrum until Spring of 2008. New York market just launched. The rest of the markets are being launched in the order that they're ready coupled with the order the government is vacating that spectrum, which they used to monitor drug, gang, and terrorist activities...

This is my own speculation based on everything about this company, from training to our Big 5. Up until recently, people who want 3g access on PDA phones have been a niche market. T-Mobile has always catered towards your average phone user, great prices, cheap phones, and customer service everyone appreciates. I believe with the launch and success of the Blackberry Pearl T-Mobile realized that times are changing, that niche market is getting bigger and bigger every year. If you cant tell, this year T-Mobile is doing alot of things they normally dont do. SE is back(love this!), android phones(more than one), 3g launch for most major markets. Of course there are more, but you get my point. And guess what, now 3g is economical to offer at the c...
