Go to T Mo or stay with Verizon?

AdrienneO

Jan 23, 2007, 12:40 AM
Hello, I've been with verizon for about 9 years now and since my contract is up I'm wondering if it's best to stay or change? Verizon has been fine, no real problems but it just seems everyone else has a better deal and better phones.

I'm nervous about locking myself into another 2 year contract with a new company that I might not like.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,

I too was a long time vzw customer, and I also got tired of paying for rate plans when others offered more for less. I've switched to t-mo about a month ago and LOVE IT! The service is just as good, if not better, customer service is easy to work with and I'm saving a boat load of money every month. I say switch, but first make sure of the coverage in your area.

I switched to Tmobile and just love it. their rate plans are the best and the coverage is great. they are also in the process of a major expansion, so the coverage keeps getting better and better,, just make sure to check your coverage area on the coverage locator map on their website.. Also , you can choose to sign up with a one year contract instead of a two year contract. You can do that by calling tmobile directly by phone to their customer service. the number is listed on their website.

Thanks for the replies. Good to know that subscribers have at least 14 days to change their minds. I've talked to some friends that are T Mob customers and live in my area and they say the coverage is good. Also, I can get a 1 year contract instead of a 2 year? How much extra is that? I think I'll hit up T Mob this weekend.

Thanks everyone!

from my experience, the best way to get the one year instead of a 2 year without having to sign or pay any extra stuff is to call them directly and sign up through the telephone , 1-877-387-4324 ,, or you can go to a T-mobile Coporate store,, but make sure it is a T-mobile Corporate Store, not an authorized Tmobile dealer,, no offense against authorized dealers,,, just that going directly through T-Mobile corporate or calling them directly, you don't have to sign any "extra" type contracts ,, i just prefer to deal directly with T-mobile ,, that is just my preference.

oh one more thing, if you call them directly, many times you will get a nicer phone for free, whereas in the store it is not offered for free.. just look on the tmobile website at the phones and then call them directly:

Hey buddy. You mean "indirect" dealers. Im not direct through the t-mob, but I am authorized. Extra contracts what? With a one year, I have a nok 6133 for $75. The nearest "direct" dealer has them for $100 with a two-year. So take your advice and shove it!

While I'm not one who posted about indirect dealers, but I don't know about your T-Mobile contracts, but some indirects (Verizon Wireless indirects included) have people locked into 2 contracts: 1 with the wireless carrier, and the other with the agent. With some agents, if the person cancels their service before contract is up with the wireless carrier, some indirects also charge their own ETF on top of the one that the wireless carr...

I am the one who posted about indirects,,, i want to thank you for your post about your experience with VZW indirects,, i had a similar experience with a Tmobile indirect requiring me to sign 2 contracts, one for Tmobile and one for the indirect if i signed through the indirect,, which is why i ended up sign up directly through Tmobile Direct. That was just my preference. Like you said, that's why some people don't want to deal with an indirect. Everyone has a different preference as to what they feel comfortable with. Thanks again for your post.

You have 14 days (unless you live in CA, then it's 30 days) to try out T-Mo and see if it's something that will work for you. I would recommend trying it out in all the places you go and would need service.

I honestly have never had a problem with my service.

First of all, does your phone work everywhere you need it? If it does I don't think it's really wise to go with something you've not used just for a phone. If you're paying too much for what you have switch to a plan with less minutes.

True. If you plan on porting. Don't port right away! Get the t-mobile line and see how it works. See if you like it. If you like it, then port the number. You don't have to port asap. That way if you don't like it, disconnect the t-mobile line (or whatever provider you want to try.)

In all reality, DCA is correct. T doesn't have the coverage that Verizon has. I LOVE T-mobile and will defend them till the end but when you're in the middle of nowhere, a place where no one in their right mind would be, there's a good chance that you won't have coverage. But, you'll have coverage in MOST places that any "normal" person would travel to (interstates and city & suburbs) and you'll never have roaming charges (as long as you're on a nationwide plan) even if you're "roaming" on someone elses network.

T-Mobile is great! I've never had any problems with it. Granted, they don't have the features like watching TV on your phone, but who uses that anyways? "C'mon kids... Full House is on! Lets gather around the phone now!"

I have to agree with shellis129's comments, T-Mobile is perfect as long as you live in a major city or at least kind of close to one. I'm using T-Mobile here in the chicagoland area and I dont notice any difference in coverage compared to verizon, actually I have a little better coverage with T-Mobile. And to be honest T-Mobile's coverage has improved significantly in the rural areas, and it will only continue to get better. Another great thing is you cannot beat their prices!! Like it was stated unlimited messaging of any kind for $14.95 is a great deal, and their rate plans are better than the rest!! Give T a try I'm sure you will be pleased. Plus you have the option to change your phone at any time just by swapping your sim card....

This is just a ridiculous statement. To characterize a certain carrier for a particular age group is just as childish as the age you wish to define. In that case Verizon should be left to the "old people" who live in New England. Nextel should be left to the blue collar workers and Sprint should be left to everyone else. Cingular should be left to the credit-challenged.

The only place they can get service is McDonalds and an airport. Brilliant statement. Do you define service as a whole by T-mobiles wi-fi offerings???
3g is an excellent service provided by Cingular but their service has been unreliable ever since the merger. Verizon, evdo is fast but its also limited by its walled garden.

...hmmm, that about sums up usage by demographic... The Nextel one doesn't apply anymore, people are leaving faster than you can dial *2 on a cell phone.

T-Mo WiFi hotspots is probably the only thing T-Mo/DT have done right. So long as they continue to offer the ability free of charge to existing T-Mo subscribers to access it...

Cingy's data is still WAY better than anything offered by T-Mo... Just ask those lawyers who are suing T-Mo for the crappy service rec'd... Although, they migrated to VZW.

Now for the T-Mo good news, based on coverage and other (cust svc, etc) offerings, T-Mo is still the best bang for the buck versus any carrier, hence the quips about it being for the younger crowd. A lot less coverage, cheaper phon...

The service at my buddy's house is not that great with T-Mobile. But then again, neither is his Verizon service. When he's ragging on T-Mobile and the lack of service bars on my phone, he's having the same issues.

Look, all services have problems in certain locations. That's why you have a trial period... so that you can use the phone and see what the service is going to be like where you use it. Try it and let yourself decide on if it's a service that does everything you need it to do. If it is, then you get to save yourself some money on phone service. If not, go with whatever company DOES do what you need it to do.

I definately don't hate Verizon. In fact, I think it's a great service. I went with T cause I was employed by them at...

They work better than Verizon for me, in my house, at my work, they just work better. I'll gladly pay more for "more." My husband and I are both city folk, so it's not a problem for us. Both of us far prefer flying somewhere to driving. Not everyone has the same needs.

You obviously believe that the needs of Podunk Arkansas are the same as me in Chicago. Thats just flat out ridiculous, no other word need describe that idealism.

T-mobile gaining ground? 901,000 customers is surely considered gaining ground. 28 million people must not be too concerned if their phones work in the fields of Idaho. Considering their price and the service I receive I see no reason to join your fantasy land and pay more to get "the network."

Nobody cares what your needs are nor the 25 million other T-Mo subscribers. Podunk, Arkansas wants a working phone the same way someone in Chicago does. Podunk wants their coverage, too... That's the point... Now if the OP switches to T-Mo and finds it better for him, so be it. Don't use the 'because the phones are more cool' at T-Mo scenario...

Thats fine, I never said that people in Podunk didn't care about their coverage nor want coverage. I merely pointed out that my coverage concerns are not the same as theirs. You criticized T-mobile for their coverage, not providing coverage is not the same as poor coverage. Cingular is a "national" carrier yet is labeled one of the worst providers by just about every poll known to the wireless industry. While the polling has little to do with word of mouth its still a fact that by and by Cingular is labeled one of the least reliable providers. Yet they would arguably be the most widespread of carriers. So having coverage isn't quite related to having adequated coverage. This is the level of research you perform? You pull up one of my previous posts. I don't say much on here because I'd rather read the posts than write them. I'm not a very talkative person to begin with. You, however, have been doing all of these posts where you have little to say and the little that you do say is pointless.
