It's true regardless of the model of phone. I did it. It's not a big deal. They had me fill out info in some book and signed a form for me containing a number that I had to give Asurion.

Yes it is true, a pain in the ass too. I lost a phone (wasn't stolen) and they still said I had to file a report, so I called the Sheriff's dept and they refused to take a report, so I argued with them and basically stated that I needed it for the insurance and it's a requirement to get the new phone, they finally agreed to take a report and did so over the phone. When I called the insurance place back they simply wanted a report number. I suspect they don't verify it and you could make up a report number.

Making up a report number is not a smart idea. You evidently don't believe they follow through with investigations of claims. Submit a bogus claim and your claim will be disqualified and you could in fact leave yourself open to criminal prosecution.

umm that would constitute insurance fraud and falsifying a police report which equals Jail time. so if the phone is that inportant to you... then go right ahead make that number up.

Yep. and the inconvienence of calling the police (in some places they make you go to the station, just depends on your police) to get a report is much less than working the extra hours needed to make the difference in the $110 deductable and the normal $429.99 replacement price.

a police report case number and police dept name are required if the phone is lost or stolen...
