T-Mobile no longer offering insurance for customers unless you are within a week of the activation. I am not sure if this is a T-Mobile thing or Asurion (the insurance company)thing. Try not to get too offended. Some reps may offer insurance but you are still unable to recieve it. If a representative adds insurance to your account Asurion will send you a letter declining your request. I personally am not too worried about insurance for the simple fact that it costs 85 bucks a year and you get a refurb in a couple weeks for a replacement. Companies that support insurance for wireless phones were getting cheated all the time. This stop may be temporary until a new system is in place. Some carries that are still offering insurance have ...

"T-Mobile no longer offering insurance for customers unless you are within a week of the activation. "

-does this apply to contract renewals? if no, i think it's complete BS to be denied insurance on a brand new $300 phone based on the simple fact that i'm a loyal, returning customer, and i didnt happen to think about it 3 years ago when i first signed up (nevermind the fact that at the time i did not know such insurance existed, nor was it offered to me)... and not ALL of us have all sorts of mommy and daddy's money to throw around buying expensive phones all the time(i can only afford to splurge like this every once in a great while), so if it breaks, i'll be glad i paid the $85 for the year to replace it...

This does not apply for renewals either. I can not say that this is a wise choice but something has to be done. It was way too easy to cheat insurance. This may be temporary. Some reps need to do thier job and read memos. Make sure that you contact customer care about this issue. Talk to Asurion personally to find out if you want to be sure. I also did not appreciate the fact of you mentioning throwing around mommy and daddys money. I work for everything I've got and all I did was help by informing you of an issue that may exist. Next time when someone attempts to help you with something try not to be too quick to judge.

i apologize 🤭 ...it was not an attack directed towards you personally.... i've just been doing alot of research lately and i see alot of people who have like 8 top-of-the-line phones and pay top dollar to have a lot of stuff 6 months before it's released in the US, etc... not directed towards you personally at all... just my way of mentioning that money is a factor for me and i'd rather not have a brand new phone be irreplaceable at less than mfr price in case of an accident, when new customers can...

thank you for the info though...better to hear it here now than in a month or two when/if i get a letter in the mail from asurion as a suprise...

also, i'm going to go out on a limb here and assume you work for Tmo.... do you kno...

This isn't a TMobile thing, it's an Asurion thing. They were getting taken to the cleaners and they cracked down, albeit a little TOO hard IMHO... I agree that the insurance option should be available when an upgrade is done, but currently there's zero latitude in the policy. I suggest emailing in on the TMobile web site requesting an insurance option for upgrades, if there's enough customer demand I bet the suits can shake it loose! Oh, and at 3.99/month, the insurance option actually costs 48.00 a year, not 85.00 as stated in another post--probably not worth it for a bottom end Nokia, but definitely a good deal on a 300.00 camera phone.

I think this is just a temporary stop to the excessive bleeding of the insurance claims until they come up with a better policy. It kinda sucks but there are always bad apples who make it worse for everyone else. Like I said, I don't think it's permanent.
