Starting next month, t-mobile is starting 2 year contracts instead of 1 year for new activations. 😢
...
TMOBILE WILL BE STARTING THE 2 YEAR CONTRACTS ONLINE THIS MONDAY!! BUT THEY WILL STILL HAVE THE 1 YEAR CONTRACTS YOU CAN NOW CHOOSE. 😁 🙂
...
This is true, but unfortunately they will be completely phasing out 1 year contracts. So in about a month or so, 1-year contracts will not be offered period
...
No we will not get rid of 1yr contracts.
...
thats horrible. half the reason people buy Tmobile is for the 1 year. my guess is they make way less money per activation than the rest of the companies with 2 yr.....just a thought
...
right you are buddy. they loose money from giving high end phones away for such a short agreement. only for customers to come back the next year an purchase another phone for a short agreement.
...
What is the difference between 1 yr and 2 yr?
I mean, will the customer get something special for going 2-years?
We are an Indirect store, so that means we can pretty much change our equipment price to whatever with a 1-yr but why push them to go 2-yr if there is no advantage? 😕
...
The difference is for a 1 year, the price of the phone will be jacked up 50 bucks, but for a 2 year the price of activation of the phone stays the same, so with a 2 year agreement you don't get anything special, but with a 1 year you get railed.
...
THE REAL DIFFERENCE IS THE 1 YEAR CONTRACT DOES NOT GIVE YOU A GOOD DISCONT ON THE PHONE. BUT WITH A 2 YEAR YOU GET A BETTER OFFER ON THE PHONE AND THE ACTIVATION IS MUCH LESS THEN 35.00. 😁
...
They will be making the activation fee cheaper? How much will it be with the 2-yr then?
...
im loving the "educated" guesses.. lol 😉 i thought you knew!
...
So, I assume you work for a corporate store?
...
T-Mobile made the decision to launch 2-year contracts at activation because of the benefits it will afford our Customers, Employees and Owners. They also wanted to keep the customers more.
...
Why is it so bad to give our customers options? I think it will be nice to say "sir, I can give you this phone for free if you would like to agree to a two year contract, or if it suits you I can give you a one year contract and all you pay is $50 for the phone." In sales it is always a benefit to the seller to be able to present options to the buyer, that way they feel like they are in control of the deal. I guess I dont understand the negativity of having options.
...
I do not work for T-Mobile but that sounds like the best idea to me. From my standpoint as a customer, I would definitely rather have a choice where I can do what is best for me, not what T-Mobile is willing to offer.
...
Tmobile WAS going to launch them starting March 1st. If you will notice while doing an activation in watson effective yesterday february 26th you MUST MANUALLY SELECT a one yr contract. Its in there now b/c they WERE going to launch it march 1st but have decided to push it back for whatever reason. The field is under "select contract term."
My guess is that they'll delay it till more towards the end of the month. Stay tuned!!
...
Yes they did delay it, thank goodness, I hope it's delayed forever.
I work for direct, and whenever the 2 year contracts come out, we are directed to sell the price of the phone as the same as long as they agree to a 2 year contract. If they want only a 1 year contract, then we have to add $50 to the price of the phone. For example, the marketed price for the RAZR is $199 with a $50 mail in rebate, so it's $149. If the customer goes with a 2 year contract, that's what they get. However, if they go with a 1 year contract, the phone must be sold at $249 with a $50 rebate, so it's $199.
I always liked T-Mobile because they were unique, they're a European country, their plans are a little different, and their 1 year contracts were ...

I agree totally. As a customer, that's what I really liked, the flexibility of a one year contract. And now even more, because I can choose a cheaper phone if Im okay with a 2-year or pay more but only be obligated for one year. Granted though, Im screwed anyway cuz its either Verizon or T-Mobile where I am at school so theoretically I should just go for two years anyway and save a few bucks.
...
WOW!!! I DIDN'T KNOW THAT T-MOBILE WAS A EUROPEAN COUNTRY, THAT MUST BE THE NEW COUNTRY BETWEEN GERMANY AND AUSTRIA.
Most people don't care if they have a 1 or 2 or 10 year contract, if they get good service, a good product and it meets their needs they will keep it. The only concearn I have is that T-Mobile is going to change their handset upgrade policy to 2 years and not 1. Most people don't take proper care of their phones and they wont last 2 years.

Yea i agree. I think many people not only dont take care of their phones, but get bored of their phone. I mean im currently dealing w/ waiting for a new phone and im only on a 1 yr contract. I dont think i could wait 2 yrs to get a new ph...

C'mon you guys, you didn't know T-Mobile is buying Iceland and setting up their own government??? Anyway, I really hate the whole 2 year idea, but I still think T-Mobile is the best cuz they use GSM and they're not as ghetto as Cingular. I think if I want to upgrade my phone, I'd order mine from abroad anyways since they have better phones and are usually pretty comparable in prices. Even some of T-Mobiles prepaid kits are pretty sweet, even if they're a little more expensive than upgrading, at least a prepaid kit won't extend my contract.
