🙂
hi all,
I'm currently a Verizon subscriber (4 years)
thinking of switching between either T-Mobile or Cingular.
I'm thinking of starting out with T-mobile (1 year commitment) and a free phone via Amazon. Down the road I plan to purchase a Treo 650 (unlocked) to use with T-Mobile. Here comes the Cingular tie-in....
I haven't been able to find the Unlimited Internet for $20.00 with a plan 39.99 or higher anywhere on their site. I called and the girl that helped me said the Treo isn't capable of viewing the internet only their Sidekick can do that. They have some kind of "limited internet" for 5.95/7.95 something like that. I want to be able to not only check my e-mail but surf the internet from time to time.
Cingular has some unlimit...

did you call t-mobile or an amazon rep? the treo IS capable of viewing web pages and that $5.99 is just mobile web which is wap. (not viewable like a pc).

as far as an unlocked treo you can do some programming to have it work as if its a t-mobile pda, BUT that involves time on the phone with a t-mobile rep that knows what they are doing. if i where you i'd go with the mda or sda coming out in a little while for t-mobile. they put the treo 650 to SHAME! or you could holdout for the sidekick3 everyone keeps saying is coming out in mar/apr. but thats up to you.

however unlocked phones suck butt because it seem nobody wants to help you with them or their to dumb to figure it out. so my advice leave the treo 650 alone.

There is an unlimited data plan with T-Mobile for 29.99 that includes GPRS internet and Wi-Fi. However, the Treo 650 doesn't use Wi-Fi, so you may be wasting your money. The MDA/SDA would be a better choice because then you can conect to a Hotspot.

If you really want the Treo, it is automatically set up with several GPRS configurations, and any rep worth a damn will have you online in 5 minutes (I would.)

Last I knew, using either the Treo 600 or 650 was not a big problem with T-Mobile service. There are several types of service you can use if I'm still correct. I used to work for T-Mobile wireless data, however, I don't know if things have changed or not but this is how it was about 6 months ago.....

The sidekick and Blackberry(ies) are the only two devices that require a specific service due to their functionality is dependant upon a web based server. Either Blackberry Web Client/Blackberry Internet Service/Blackberry Enterprise Server. The sidekick uses Danger Inc. Server alongside the desktop interface.

However, those are limited applications, so don't let that confuse you with the internet. With a device such as a pocket pc, mda, ...

Thanks all.
bizkitsngravy thanks alot. Really helpful.
I wonder if anyone else knows for comparison sake...
about Cingulars Media net and it's comparison to T-Mobile's Internet?
Also where on T-Mobiles site can i find info on

"Last I knew, T-Mobile offered a $19.99 add-on to any voice plan for unlimited data. You can either have T-Mobile internet (again, NOT wap), or T-Mobile VPN internet. (if you need to access another server such as through your work and you have to go past a firewall/proxy server, etc...)"

Thanks.
