Those aren't technically considered SMS msgs, just alerts and are free.

No, but I also thought T-Mobile stopped doing that all together. Don't you just get the voicemail icon now?

My wife just got a MotoV330 with Tmobile and I will be dropping ATT/Cing soon (in no small part due to piss poor customer service) to get in on her family plan.

So of course it is up to me to figure out how the thing works.

Not seeing a Voicemail icon, just a "You have a new msg from Tmobile" which I took to be an sms message, am I wrong on that assumption?

The msg read that you have 3 new voicemails dial 123 to retrieve them.

Those messages are n/c. And that sounds like the old voice mail system. I guess they're moving to the new system market by market? The new system is more typical where you get a message waiting icon and not a text message.

Well, it's more typical now for *some* T-Mobile customers. As has been said elsewhere not all areas have been cutover to the new system yet. Up until this year the "typical" system was to get a text message telling you that you have voicemail.

If you mean notification that you have voicemail the answer is no. Any official messages from T-Mobile do not count for being charged or deducted from any message bundle you have.

If you are on West Coast or NE part of the US you have the new Comverse VM system. This system has a MWI showing a reel-to-reel icon (like a pair of glasses). The old VM system is Glenayre and it sends an sms (txt msg) to your phone and NO it does NOT charge. Hope this helps!
