3G Refarming

Will the refarming of 3G from AWS to PCS (1900) require new handsets to recieve 3G service now?

Will all the TMO customers need new handsets in Vegas to get 3g service now that T Mob is using 1900 for 3g?

I wouldnt think so since 1900 is what they were running edge/2g on. now its 3g to improve serive and make room for lte next year. People will only need a new device if they're not using a 3g capable phone ( theyre still out there).

Ok but I thought 1900 was EDGE and 1700 was 3g I was under the impression that edge and 3g (wcdma) were two different technoligies but I have no idea behind the theory of either type of network
...

They are different technologies. As long as your phone supports WCDMA 1900, you're in the clear. There are a few older ones that Only support WCDMA 1700, those handsets wont function on 3G anymore.

I'll just be glad when its finfished and they've transitioned theyre customers to 3g phones I'm tired of hearing customers complain about their crappy lg gs170 flip phone they bought at walmart.
