Upgrade problem with t-mobile

gamepoint

I have been a t-mobile customer for 1 1/2 years and they want more money from me to upgrade my phone then new customers. I am willing to sign a new contract (currently I am not in a contract) but they still wont give me the prices they have on their website for phones. Samsung s105 on t-mobile website for $19 after rebate. From me they want $149 and my rebate is only $75 bringing my phone to about $74. I dont understand this..do you people have the same problem with T-mobile...if anyone knows a solution to this please tell me

Thanks

Gamepoint - I believe now for upgrades they are offering you prices as per the website for a new customers.

Check this thread out. https://www.phonescoop.com/carriers/forum.php ?fm=m&ff=5&fi=27930

I wonder if they have any qualification criteria for this new scheme.

there really isn't one right now. T-Mobile is reworking the whole upgrade process specifically because of that though. The rebates themselves are the first step in the right direction. The kinks aren't worked out yet and the final version of the upgrade program has yet to show itself, but it's in the works.

if you can.. just hold off a month or two. We're revamping our customer upgrade program which will then allow you to upgrade your phone at the same cost to a new customer.

I know people have concerns as to why t-mobile didn't do this before and that it doesn't make sence that only new customers get those prices. It's not as if T-mobile only offers those prices to new customers as an incentive to join and then wants to snag you once you're in. Those low prices on phones aren't realistically profitable as far as the handset itself is concerned. We sell them at prices lower than what we pay for them, thus taking a hit on it. However to meet the increasing demand of our customers, we're taking the hit and giving everyone even better serv...

I'm following up on this thread. My fiancee has been a T-Mo customer since November 2002. She has a Moto V-66 which she got when she signed up. Is she eligible for a new phone upgrade? She will not sign more than a one-year agreement and she needs a tri- or Quad-band phone as she is German and we go to Germany more than once a year. We have Deutsche Telekom SIM cards there so the phone needs to be unlocked as well.

What has happened since March regarding upgrades for existing customers?

She has to be on a 39.99 or more rate plan, yes you are given the option of not signing a contract (T-Mobile does STRICTLY ONE YEAR CONTRACTS), but you won't get a rebate if there is one available for the particular phone.

In the Houston Market, they just did a price drop on the Samsung E105 (nice, sleek, color flip phone) you get an additional $50 off (in store rebate), along with the already offered $50 mail in rebate.

She can get the phone unlocked after a period of time (correct me if I am wrong... 90 days?).

We have a few new phones coming out soon (July/August). Keep a look out.

Once she has purchased her upgrade Samsung E105 through T-Mobile the customer can perform a sim subsidy unlock from Customer Care immediately.

A sim subsidy unlock requires the customer to be a post-paid customer in good standing. The 90 day wait period is no longer part of the unlock policy. Even a new customer can request a sim subsidy unlock.

No, incorrect. The account must be in service for 90 days before a SIM unlock request can be filed. Policy has not changed regarding this, and I just confirmed it before posting this. We will do one unlock per line per 90 day period, and the account must be active and current.

Guys:
we're talking about a phone UPGRADE here - the ACCOUNT has been continuously in use and paid on-time for a year and a half.
Does this mean that if she pays for an upgraded phone that she then has to wait an additional 90 days to get the NEW phone unlocked? Also, what if she converts to the family plan, adds an additional phone for me and we share T-Mo minutes. What kind of tri-band phone can we get on that plan and do we also have to wait 90 days to get it unlocked? (the purpose of which, of course, for us, is to be able to put your big brother Deutsche Telekom's SIM card into the phone in Germany to talk to friends and family THERE at local rates - not at "long distance from the U.S." rates.

BTW,
All this SIM/Subsidy unlock B.S....

I was addressing this portion of the previous post: "The 90 day wait period is no longer part of the unlock policy. Even a new customer can request a sim subsidy unlock." This is incorrect information. The customer may request the unlock before 90 days is up, but it will not be fulfilled.

As for existing accounts, the policy is one unlock request per line per 90 day period. A single line account can therefore unlock four handsets per year, more than most people are likely to upgrade by a factor of four. If, on the other hand, you unlock your existing phone one day and then upgrade to a new phone the next and have one line on the account, you will have to wait 89 days to unlock your new phone. Clear yet?

OK, enuff said! And, T-Mobile is much better than others in this respect. AWS not unlocking your phone AFTER your contract is over and you have paid the subsidy on the phone and you want to go somewhere else and keep the phone that YOU HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR is what is driving the SIM/Subsidy Lock lawsuit; completely unreasonable behavior on the part of a corporation!

Thanks, I had a feeling there were no changes to the 90 day SIM unlock policy.

Hey, I just wanted to let you know the reason why the Online price is so much lower than the Upgrade Price is because it says "WEB-ONLY REBATE" which, even if a brand new customer walks into a retail store, they would not get that price. We can't always match the prices online, but the majority of our phones ARE available at same as new customer pricing, as long as you meet the now simplified qualifications: 12-months on a $39.99/mo PP or higher, and 12-months since your last discounted handset upgrade purchase. Not to mention the prices are offered with only a 1-YEAR contract, NEVER 2!! 😁
