How bout that! Tmo actually upgrading an Android smartphones software, that's surprising. Did the G1 even ever get ?any? software upgrades?

I guess I missed the headline of the G1 getting an update. What version? Owners of the G1 should upgrade to the MyTouch Slide.

The G1 started at 1.0. It got upgraded to 1.1, then 1.5, then 1.6. So yeah, it was definetely getting upgrades. Eventually a device will reach its limits, and with the G1 its memory. If you did your research you'd see that the G1 only has around 55mb of onboard memory left after 1.6 is installed. There's not enough memory to run larger, newer versions. Its just like upgrading any other piece of equipment, eventually older systems will be unable to support more upgrades.
That being said, I'm sure the guys at XDA will figure out how to get 2.1 or maybe even 2.2 onto the G1. How will it run with such a small amount of memory? We'll see!
