If you change your rate plan will it extend your contract and if so why do they not explain this to me when i change it.

Most times you change your rate plan T-mobile will extend the contract one year from that day. If you are already in contract for more than a year, your contract will remain unaffected. T-mobile employees are all required to tell you about contract extension. If you were not told this by your rep, I apologize. Just know that it should be explained thoroughly, retail reps do not benefit from rate plan extensions so there is no reason to try and trick the customer.

ok thanks for the info but why do they make you extend it because what if something comes up or you add a phoen and you have to change your rate plan???

I think it's so that they prevent consumers from being fickle about their plans, changing every couple months or so. In the past I want to say I've read on here stuff to the effect that it's more an issue of not wanting you to decrease your plan -- as in they're obviously not complaining if you upgrade to a bigger plan, but they want to keep you from downgrading if possible.

depends on the rateplan and if you select one that does require a contract then it depends on if you have less than a year left or more. If you have less than one year and selecting a promotional rateplan then yes. (if you aren't selecting a non contract rp which they do have them)

Generally it when you are fully out of contract already and you want to change your plan that T-mobile can put you on the new rate plan with no contract. This however, is generally the exception to the rule. A safer way to look at things is to just expect a contract extension of no more than one year. Also, any promotional rate plans generally extend your contract. Best thing to do is find a retail rep you trust that can give you straight answers.
