I was wondering about using tmobile UMA phones and making calls using wifi. Are the calls unlimited only on tmobile wireless networks or will it work if i catch a wifi signal, say, at my job? Thanks.

If you're connected to wifi and have the $10 hotspot feature on your account, you'll get unlimited calling. Without the $10 hotspot feature, those calls will be billed like any other call. To answer your question though, it's all wifi signals.

Thanks for you guys help. That's what I thought but the rep kept pushing "if you have a tmobile hotspot." Felt like she skated around saying all wifi networks. Never said it wouldn't be free on other wifi networks, just repeated unlimited on hotspots. Now, which phone..Hmm...

there're several points
1. you can make UMA calls with most of wifi broadband
2. if you're in UMA mode, and have unlimited @Home addon, you can make unlimited calls, and you won't be charged (calls under UMA mode come with U code)
3. without @Home addon, you'll be charged like regular calls
4. you won't get charged international roaming when you make UMA calls with broadband overseas (make sure you don't have WorldClass activated)

International is the key thing for me. So if I get a UMA phone, I need to add the unlimited @home (This I knew) but I need to have WorldClass NOT activated (this I didn't know)?

Can you explain "world class not activated" in more detail? I have it activated as I travel overseas somewhat. Also could you go into detail about how using wifi outside the US works?
I do have @home service.

Well what he is saying is that if you use the phone on wifi overseas you will not be charged. If you do not have the world class roaming then your phone will not be able to connect to international towers. Basically it prevents you from accidentally connecting to a intl tower. The only downside is if your not connected to wifi you will not be able to use your phone. You can basically achieve the same thing with a blackberry by turning off your cell radio and only running your wifi.

And anchorman the rep was dumb you can use the phone on any wifi connect. The problem is if its password protected then you need to know the password. The one advantage with the T-mobile hotspots is the phone will automatically connect to them with out an...

👀

Ummmm. Not exactly.

As I tried to connect UMA/WiFi via a Linksys Router back in October while visiting family, I ran into issues.

Was told by Blackberry support that my Sunset Curve will not sync with Linksys Routers.

Not sure if item will be resolved or has been as of yet.
