I work for a t-mobile direct dealer, and to answer your question, the deposit is based on the customer's credit class. Depending on which credit class you fit under will give you either a regular activation fee, an increased activation fee, or a deposit which you WILL get back at the end of your contract. Hopefully this answers your question.

Either a $35 activation fee due with your first month's bill, a $75 activation fee which could either be upfront or on your first bill depending on your credit class, or a $500 deposit which you will get back at the end of your contract.

Yes, $500 is the max T-mobile charges for a deposit; with the only excpetion being if you dont have a social security# or refuse to give it. Then its a $600 😉
