3G When?

Jan 1, 2008, 6:40 PM
There are a couple 3G capable Tmobile phones availabe so Im guessing that a 3G launch should closely follow. Any word on an official launch or is Tmob still waiting on the GOV to vacate thier spectrum.

I caught suspected 3G with 6263 in Lower Manhattan area
however, except you can debrand it and run it in 3G only mode, there's no solid evidence yet

still wait them to vacate it. last i heard from engineers is June 2008.

it is coming SOON because they are putting up towers right now, some friends of mine work in engineering and they just came from washinton to set them up for minnesota.

Speaking of the spectrum, when they say the spectrum that will be used is 1700/2100 does that mean that Tmob bought licenses in both frequency bands? I don't remember 2100 being for sale in the AWS auction. Whats the deal?

AWS includes 1700 (phone->node) and 2100 (node->phone), that operates together
it's keeping delayed, as I see 3+1 antenna matrix is here and there
and recently I caught suspected 3G is testing in Lower Manhattan
if you have 6263 tethered, go to WTC area to check out

Thanks. I dug up the AWS archive and checked it out. Hopefully Denver will be one of the initial markets they launch 3G in. ATT people had to wait too long here to get 3G.

In many of the areas they already are about to launch.

In some places it should be imminent as they have already have infrastructure and put the spectrum in those areas. Perhaps they are waiting for the government or some more tests. I have not checked with them but a while ago, few months ago, they were almost ready to launch.
