Guys,

for the following options,
1. Wi fi
2. using skype to call on wifi
3. large screen... smartphone

I am left with are Wing and 8320 curve to consider...

has any one tested skype on wifi and called people on these phones.

can any one having the above mentioned phones try it (skype) on a wifi network and let me know about how they perform.

i have read a lot about wing being slow. i am not bothered if it takes 3 seconds for it to change the screen layout on opening...

Can it perform well on skype and wifi, basic internet browsing.

please let me know

thanx

both of those do a good job on skype actually. I'd probably go with the curve though.
I have not tried out the Shadow on Skype yet though, and it does do wifi, has a large screen and is a smartphone.

i was in the store checking for the two phones.. i like wing better.. only problem though was that wing had only 6 mb of free memory with no tasks running.. that kind of bothered me....

FYI , the Wing looks great and has touch screen (pocket pc) , but let me tell you its just a looks and feel phone thats it! performance is terrible! I had originally moved to t-mobile about a month ago. I originally ordered the Wing, and i exchanged it for the shadow. BIG MISTAKE! finally I'm on my last return and I'm getting a curve!!! The Windows mobile has never been right and honestly i doubt it will ever get it right! SLOW and Freeze! Your better off with the curve! Don't be fooled by the looks of the WING! Thats the gimmick to pull people in!

Yeah, from personal experience, go with the Curve for overall performance.

blackberrys have been better "phones" reception wise too, you can help with the internal memory and hpw slow it is with a memory card and closing applications if you arent using them

This is in response to this post as well as other recent postings. The wing can be improved upon. There are software hacks out there to improve it and if you want to go to the extreme you can replace the OS completely with a modified version. Skype is great on the Wing with Wifi You just have to tweak your wifi and skype settings. iSkoot would be an OK option but it involves extra little charges that wouldn't make it worth while. Just stick with the UMA of Curve an you"ll be fine. 😁

just make sure you know what youre doing when you start changing software cuz its not covered under warranty if you change it entirely

Well the first thing..... this is coming from the original person who did the write up on here about how to hack Skype and use it on the smartphones before it was an option. (sda etc)

So that being said, your most important spec should be the actuall processor. You can have all the network speed there is, but if you don't have AT LEAST a 300mhz processor your Skype expirence won't be great..... It will be okay, but not great.

At the current time T-Mobile doesn't offer a phone that comes close to that type of processor. So I see you have two options...

Buy an unlocked Tilt (AT&T). It has like a 400mhz processor I think.. You can use that on wifi for Skype... I haven't looked to see if the 3G bands are the same or not so I din't k...

Im sure you probably dont realize but the 8320 runs on a 312MHz Intel XScale processor. So when you say that T-Mobile doesnt offer a phone with enough processor your not entirely correct.

That may be the case... so I was wrong... T-Mobile has only 1 phone over 300mhz... 😁

Still even at 312... You might have had a good expirence, but I have ran some phones at 312 and they didn't do great... they were ok... but not great... So try and get a little more processor if you can.... The more processor, the clearer your conversation will be. I would hate to see someone spend money on something that has the low end speed that Skype needs.... and then it doesn't work perfectly...
