With the delay in the 3G rollout timetable, what should I do?

My contract is at the 11-month upgrade window in November, so looking ahead, what is the best option here: 1) Go ahead and pick from the current offerings (assuming that the 3G is still some time away) or 2) should I just wait for a 3G rollout within a few months in 2008? Basically I'm trying to get an idea when the 3G capability is expected at this point, or at least when the 3G phones will become available. I have a Nokia 6133 currently, and would nost likely stay Nokia.

Waiting is always good but depending on where you live they could roll it out. Such as New York they are actually almost done at turning it on. Those issues are just some areas not all of it.

I do not remember where the other markets are but they should have everything 100% completed by 2009. With this delay some areas could get affected but until T-mobile mentions it more we will not know. I actually have not been told that this is indeed going to affect them from sources there and other places. You aren’t in a rush right? If not, just wait.

I just wanted to know if it worth my while to take advantage of the upgrade offer and grab a new phone, or if 3G were going to be coming out in less than 11 mos.

It just depends with where the exact rollouts are going to be taking place and if this rumor is true or not. As I said, I can’t confirm it so I am not sure. I think it is definitely worth to wait for a 3G device because they will be special especially coming from T-mobile.

Conclusion; wait.

Yeah we're not. I'm in Cincinnati too and I doubt we'll get it until at least the middle or the end of 2008. 😢

just wait till they bring out there 3g network. even though sprint has a 3g network and plan on bringing a 4g network along side of the 3g. tmobile is still one of the cheapest cell services around. i am switching form sprint and there service is expensive. i spend about a 100 a month with sprint. And with t-mobile i'll bee spending like 65 a month. so when they bring out there 3g. i think more people will go with tmobile because there know for have really cheap plans. and isn't the samsung t629 a 3g phone?

You do not know that T-mobile will have cheap plans for their 3G services though, especially since they spent a lot of money on the spectrum and will spend more on rolling out the network. Overtime they might lower it to undercut the competition but we shall see. the good thing is, they paid a very low amount for the MHz/pop so just on that metric they could charge low but they need to at some point re-coup that spending and the spending on the capital expenditures side. If you actually notice, T-mobile’s ARPU is 2nd behind Sprint’s. therefore, they might be inexpensive, but people are signing up for the more expensive plans showing interest in actual “stuff” and goodies. Samsung t629 I do not think that is a 3G device....

Wish Indianapolis was on that list. I could DESPERATELY use it now. I LOVE T-mobile service....but I REALLY need 3G speeds. Switching from Sprint to T-Mobile was good on the customer service end....HORRIBLE on the data speed end. 😢
