Right now it seems T-mo is the only major carrier without GPS service on their network. Do any of you know of a way to use a maps program on a t-mobile device, perhaps a periphreal device?
Also, does anyone know if they have any plans to add that ability to their network? Right now the lack of GPS is the one thing that really sucks about T-mo. Love the service, prices and phones, but miss my GPS.
...
I know it has the capability, but Ive been told the T-mo network wont do GPS. Its not listed as a feature on the T-Mo website under the 8800.

Tmobile supports gps on on the Nokia 5140, Nokia E61i, and yes, the Blackberry 8800. and TMobile is exclusively GPS
...
however, gps over gsm is very unreliable and is not "officially" supported by tmobile. and with the nokia E61i, you need to buy a nokia gps module and download software to your phone. the blackberry 8800 is your best bet. by the way tmobile is looking into providing gps service

very interesting... I e-mailed T-mobile about it and apparently they lied to me... or whoever responded didnt know. If the Curve that came out in germany gets a QWERTY keyboard I'll import it and use on T-Mo. If the 8800s GPS works it should too right? I really am waiting for the Curve to upgrade.
...
phone scoop has a review of the curve and it is apparently on sale in north america. at&t carries it. you may be able to find one for sale not offered by att on the web 😁 oh and the blackberrys use telenav maps if you want to do some research on that program
...
Yeah, but the one on ATT doesnt have GPS. They made a new version, the 8310 for sale now in germany. Its exactly like the regular curve except is has GPS added to it.

at&t uses a J2ME platform. As long as the phone is 3G eneabled, J2ME developers have made GPS apps.

I believe all phones, by law, have the GPS chip, just in case of 911 situations.

I'm looking to use something like telenav to get directions using a maps application. Blackberry actually makes a maps application that is free for blackberrys and if the device has GPS it will do real time turn by turn directions, and its free! I have an 8700 right now on T-Mo and the backberry maps but it wont do turn by turn because my device is not GPS enabled.
Are you saying if I buy a Curve and put it on T-mos network I could get turn by turn directions in real time? Or at least, if I got the 8800 on T-mos network I could do this?
...
don't buy German version, espcially T-Mobile US version has wifi and @Home supported
8800 has integrated GPS

Forgive me for asking this question, but what platform does T-Mobile have on their phones. I may have a site that allows GPS on T-Mo phones.
The reason why I ask to forgive me, is because I could of researched it myself, but failed to do so. Just wanted a quick answer. Thanks.

you can use telenav ($10/month+internet)
and currently I have Google Maps (free) on pocket pc, tethered with bt GPS and sonyericsson phone (used as modem, requires internet)

tmobile is strictly GPS and the blackberry supports 3rd party software. just gotta do your research to find out what will work with it. unless you HAVE to have the qwerty keypad i would just do a handset upgrade to the 8800. i dont think you'll be disappointed
