What about handsets, any new ones? from which manufacturers, network speeds? Any software upgrades for the phones to take advantage of the upgrade or will a new handset need to be purchased. If I get an unlocked iPhone will I be able to use it on the network including data? Thanks in advance! ๐Ÿ™‚

Not too sure if the Apple's iPhone OSX will work on T-Mo's network. I could be wrong. ๐Ÿ˜•

T-Mo UK should is rumored to be picking up the I Phone. I have purchased phones in UK and brought them back to the US and phone features work perfectly without setting up T-MO U.S. access points. It should be interesting to see if the I Phone will be the same!!!

Apple and Cingular signed an exclusive multi-phone deal, so I can easily see Apple making that......difficult, if not impossible.

the exclusivity deal is only for here in the US. other carriers are shopping the idea of picking up the phone in other parts of the world.

well what happens in some cases some devices that are exclusive are only for a certain amount of time befor other carriers can get rights for the device. cingular might start the Iphone but it may not stay only cingular forever. just like the sidekick. its known as a t-mobile exsclusive device but Suncom also has it.

Have you seen anyone using a sidekick for anyone but T-Mobile? Not properly. Apple will make it so only AT&T custies can use it, and the international variation will only work internationally.

just like what was said in the post before yours...the sidekick is also offered by suncom as the "hip-top." so...yeah...i have. as far as the iPhone for Europe....i highly doubt that apple would dumb down the iPhone for a Euro release....it is quad band world and will remain that way...apple may build in a preferred roaming list that will only accept it's world wide partners networks but it will roam worldwide.

Software upgrades can't make a cell phone suddenly able to handle or support the frequency. The hardware has to be built into the phone and then the software to support it installed.

They are also looking to release the Wi-Fi @home / hotspot system they have been testing. For more info here are some URLs

Two of the phones that T mobile has lined up for it are the Samsung SGH-T709 and the Nokia 6136 witch use UMA for the Wi-Fi. The downside on both phones is they loose bluetooth but I'm sure newer phones will work around this issue.

I was told by a "higher up" tmo employee that the samsung will launch with bluetooth. But yes the two models that were used in seatle were slimmed down for the testing.

Just remember Hotspot @ Home is all about voice calls. Not providing any sort of internet connection.
