T-Mobile moved to the 4th position after Sprint

As much you guys here say Sprint sucks, it is back in the 3rd position and that is without Nextel. I never really had a problem with Sprint when i had it. The ease of switching headsets by replacing the sim card and international coverage keeps me from going to a CDMA network.

PS. What is T-Mobile doing? They offer the most minutes and above average customer service and still can't keep up with the other carriers?

What T Mobile is doing: Not saying free roaming and then charging roaming for users that roam more than 50% of the time. We are also not giving really crappy customer service. And we are also not concerned with turning the latest phones into turn-key american necessities like plasma screens, microwaves, and other non-sensical features. We pretty much like to make sure people can use phones when and where they need them, and when they can't, we are here to help.

Thank you.

I think it was a mistake having T-Mobile as 3rd on here anyways. Sprint, by itself, has always had more customers. This isn't something new. I think one day it will change because everyone knows their customer service sucks.

no matter what Sprint offers, the net customer growth is not looking good during 1Q 07 (only 600k), while T-Mobile has almost 1M

Who cares if they listed first last in the middle listed in hell. The facts show themselves they are the best in customer service in all 6 market areas in the United States. So they dont have the most customers like that has helped Cingular/at&t verizon is now beating them in retail customers. The main thing is Verizon and T-mobile are rated as the two best Cell companies and there is a huge difference in customer basis there so do you think tmobile cares if phonescoop moved there logo one down. All the carriers have decent networks some just lack way more in customer service than others. I may not make any points here but my god to argue about sprint is better because phonescoop moved there logo in front of T-mobiles who cares.

I agree... I am sure that no one in T-Mobile HQ is crying that a on-line website moved their logo, just as I am sure that there is no big party at Sprint HQ for the same reason. Yes, everyone has about the same network, it comes down to value, customer service, and overall customer satisfaction. Those are the numbers to look at. And just because a company is bigger (ie. Verizon) does not mean that they are better. People just don't want to switch what they are comfortable with, even if that means they will pay more money or sacrifice customer service. OK, I will stop ranting...

No Sir. Everyone does not have the same network. Verizon has 4 towers to ever on that T-Mobile has. On the data side (3G) there is no comparison. The fact is that T-Mobile has to offer so many more minutes just to keep the customers it has. I am not saying that T-Mobile will not "bring it" in the next few years but this should be a shot in the arm for them to speed up 3G roll out. Apparently people do care. I bet when Cingular or Verizon customers say they have a much better network thats why they don't mind paying an extra 20 bucks. But T-Mobile customers do not say I am with TMO because i am cheap and they have Cheap plans.

Everyone DOES essentially have the same network. 3G offers some great services for those in business or in need of a internet service on the go for laptops but when it comes down to wap on cell devices and sometimes even on blackberries, it is not entirely necessary for the sites that are available anyway. T-Mobile in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM HAS TO OFFER MORE MINUTES JUST TO KEEP CUSTOMERS. Key differences being that T-Mobile does great bringing in customers and does not offer mobile to mobile in the calling plans with only a small fraction more of anytime minutes as well as a slight price increase if you prefer to have myfaves with your calling rate. T-Mobile is on the right track and keeping the customer in mind. Verizon is like a fat he...

T- mobile sucks, their phones suck and their employees suck.
If someone asked me to rank the major wireless carriers by how good their reception/call quality is, it would be like this:
1. Verizon
2. Sprint
3. Cingular
4. Nextel
5. T-mobile

Beautiful, I just felt like a one legged Vietnam Vet saying the pledge of allegiance, I'm so overwhelmed with pride...

Seriously though, great description of exactly why T-Mobile is doing better than Sprint right now. T Mobile is the fastest going wireless provider and Sprint has 2 customers leaving for every new activation right now.

I think things will change when they come out with the HSDPA/HSUPA lineup but T-mobile has still a lot of work in front of it to become in the top 3.

I actually think this company can be a strong player in the next few years, especially since voice saturating is becoming to all time highs and need to offset with data. HSDPA/HSUPA might help them overcome some problems, but they still need to improve their network coverage in many areas until they are classified as a great competitor. I think they will.

Does anyone know the real numbers? I was under the impression that Sprint with Nextel had more customers than T-Mobile but Sprint alone had less. It might be that they were successful in porting over their customers from iden to their cdma network. Thats the the direction i was trying to go in the start of this forum.

PS T-Mobile gives above average customer service according to the surveys but the employees that are here are some of the most insecure in the industry. They can't take one simple question and keep it in propective. It reminds me of someone buying a Ferrari to compensate for other shortcomings.

Yes. Sprint/Nextel has while 53.6 million net subscribers while Nextel alone has 16.5 million subscribers and Sprint alone has 41.6 million. The remaining subscribers have to deal with the collaborated efforts by Boost, wholesale and affiliate channels. T-mobile, at the end the 4th quarter 2006, had 25.04 million subscribers.

Actually, Sprint is struggling a little bit when it comes with those dual mode phones known as Power Source and they transferred 400k so far or 1/3rd of customers who are switching from IDEN to CDMA to use that device. 1.2 million IDEN customers left.

Sorry. I mis-calc. The below is the correct math.

Sprint has a total of 53.6 million customers, which consist of 32.845 million on the CDMA side, and 20.8 million on the IDEN side.

I think almost everyone is overstating the impact of the iPhone itself; I see it more as a way to get people to go to the store because when they see the prce they are gonna say "what other phones do you have?" I just don't see a huge percentage of customers paying $400 for a phone.

I am not that optimistic about iPhone
I have been using several smartphones and PDA phones (including Symbian and WM), and eventually go back to regular sonyericsson phones
more solid
more stable
more flexibility
I simply am not that interested at iPhone
it does not have 3G for the price, too ridiculous
the battery is not removable, if your battery runs out, you're SOL (don't ever think battery extender saves more space than spare battery)
touchscreen, my goodness! it can cause tons of mis-operation if the touchscreen is not covered
price, hey, let's check out how much 8GB nano is
in short, I have no interest on iPhone at all, even Hong Kong unlock version was available

I actually do see many people paying $400+ for a phone and there are/were some phones out there in those price figures. I am not too optimistic not because of the costs it has to deal with the lack of a high speed data on there, but obviously that helps Apple and AT&T as consumers will buy it and they won’t care too much, however, I obviously think they should deploy a high speed data on there. I think that will gain a lot more traction then this current device. I think that whole exclusivity period was a bad idea for Apple because if they would have had it globally they would be more successful.

We shall see.

I started to check Voicestream/Omnipoint/Powertel back to 2001
the coverage and customer base was pretty small then
going from 10 million to 26 million in 5 years (from Voicestream renamed to T-Mobile USA, to now) is not easy without further acquiston (though acquire Suncom, Cellular One, and Alltel is still possible)
the coverage was bad due to limitation of 1900, and lack of license in some markets, and it'll be filled with AWS license
even T-Mobile will run UMTS/HSDPA over new 1700 band (at&t will run UMTS over 1700 in some markets too), I foresee the success of 3G that not many carriers can
T-Mobile will have more customer gain through new 3G markets; PP churn has hit a milestone, under 2.0, this is pretty important, means more cust...

One of the global market leaders
T-Mobile International is one of the world’s leading companies in mobile communications. As one of Deutsche Telekom’s three strategic business units, T-Mobile concentrates on the most dynamic markets in Europe and the United States. By the end of 2006, more than 106 million customers are served in the twelve T-Mobile markets. T-Mobile is a partner of FreeMove, an alliance formed by four of Europe’s leading mobile companies - Orange, TIM (Telecom Italia Mobile), TeliaSonera, and T-Mobile - to help their customers communicate as easily while travelling abroad as they do at home.
