? Regarding the cancellation of service...

First of all their are good things I like about Cingular Service...

Rate plan
Data plan
Rollover Minutes
Customer Service (At the store)

But the wife and I both got Data phones about 9 months ago....

And at that time I did not know about the annoying interference that the phone can cause with some phone systems, radios etc.....

When I first noticed this happening I didn't know that it was my phone.. And was a little embarrassed after wards. I was even told by customer service (1-800) that this was normal..

My wife has been told at work that she has to put her phone in a place that will not interfere and make obnoxious noises.

I am a consultant and it is really irritating when I am at a clients site and it starts int...

now i have a question what kind of noise? kind of made me curious. Has the store or cust service mentioned about getting your phone replaced through them or through the manufacturer if needed?

Its like a chirping buzz, I have the same problem all the time and it has happened with Motorola and LG phones. It is very irritating as I have been on calls at work with my desk phone and can hear it through there (and so do people on the other end). I've also been fairly happy with Cingular up until recently when my reception at home dropped down to nothing.

GSM phones do it. its normal. not convenient, but normal. you deal with the noise, but you get the ease of a SIM card.

No, ALL GSM do this.
The buzzing is louder when you're using the 850MHz frequency. T-Mo uses only 1900MHz their phones buzz too, but not as loud as ours because of this.

Uh..... ALOT of cellphones do this. Every phone manufacturer states in the T&C of using the device you accept any and all interference. Its just about all anything that you plug in, or is battery powered. Its sucks, but its just the way it is.

Actually, Cingular is the only carrier where I've had this problem. I've been with Sprint and VZW in the past and haven't had the buzz. Even set up service again with VZ this past weekend because I'm thinking about going back and it doesn't happen with their phone.

I don't think that you will be able to get out of your contract ...

But the "pulse" noise that you sometime here is just how gsm communicates with networks.

You prob. only here the noise when a call is going to come through, or when using data (is you phone, say a blackberry, is pushing through e-mail) ..

nothing to worry about and everyones phones do it except for cdma

cdma uses a more constant technique to communicate and that is one of the reasons that cdma phones have such shorter battery life

gsm "speaks" with the network in spurts (causing the noise, but saving battery life)

Enjoy Cingular while you are there

Very well put. I hope all of this is fact, as I have learned quite a bit from this, namely about the "spurts"

The only way you could get out of the ETF to which you agreed, in this case, is to hope to get a customer service person or supervisor who is not technically savvy. Any wireless RF has the potential to cause interference with other wireless RF or some electronic equipment. I've never tested this with CDMA; however, this happened with me using Analog, TDMA, GSM, & iDEN.

tdma is the basis for iDen and GSM

cdma is completely different then tdma and its evolved forms.

A disadvantage of TDMA systems is that they create interference at a frequency which is directly connected to the timeslot length. This is the irritating buzz which can sometimes be heard if a GSM phone is left next to a radio or speakers. Another disadvantage is that the "dead time" between timeslots limits the potential bandwidth of a TDMA channe (Wikipedia)

cingular is the ONLY wireless carrier around here that does that. My mom has verizon, nothing. Dad has sprint, nothing. I had tmobile, nothing. Cingular, i shut the tv and computer off when im on the phone.

That's extreme, do you realize by simply moving the phone a few feet away from these devices stop the interference. I keep my Cingular phone, about a foot away from my PC, but I place it next to the keyboard in the keyboard tray never here the problem.

Look it will only cause the noise when the device is communicating with the network. If the device is consanty creating the noise you must have a data enabled device that is constantly trading information

Ill say it again because it looks like there was some confusing on the difference between network styles:

Cingular and T-Mobile are both GSM and will BOTH MAKE THE NOISE!

Verizon, Sprint, Alltel are all CDMA AND DO NOT MAKE THE NOISE!

Nextel is iDen and it is based off of TDMA (AND SO IS GSM) SO IT WILL ALSO MAKE THE NOISE!

It's not a big deal and everyone who has T-Mobile, Cingular, or Nextel has dealt or will deal with this little noise sometime or another.

So chill, and if it really annoys you that bad just pay the ...

you say here like it matters?

location hasn't anything to do with the noise

it has to do with the frequency the noise is made and what band your phone is using

if you are on t-mobile 1900 band the noise will not be made, and that goes for cingular too

but

if you are using 850 on EITHER carrier the noise will be made.

No it is not my phone....

I know it is the service...

And yes, I have tried other data phones...

But if I am tethering, Getting Emails through push or whatever, receiving a phone call.

It interferes with a lot of different equipment..

My wife cannot even keep her data phone near her phone at work. Because as she receives alot of emails it causes constant interference with her phone.....

Others have different carriers that use data constantly and have no problems.

I thought at the beginning it was just the phone or a fluke... In the beginning it wasn't so bad. But once we started using the data side of the phone more often it became annoying..

And after doing some searching on here and google I see that it is a...

Did you have GSM before? This is not a data phone problem but a GSM issue. Not sure why you did not notice it before (and if you did have GSM before good luck making the argument that it is a new occurance).

If this is so important go to Verizon. CDMA doesn't have THIS particular issue but remember, they all have something that is not worthwhile.
