The Nokia 6230 will be discontinued due to a quality related issue that is causing the device to lock-up within a large number of our Cingular markets and channels. After several weeks of non-stop investigation, Nokia has been unsuccessful in isolating a root cause contributing to this occurrence. This problem is believed to be software related.

I consider The 6230 one of the best phones we carry. Other than my mmc card having an unknown password set to it I have had no problem with software lockups, frezzing, power cycling, whatever. C'mon whats goin on here!! 😈 😈 😈 😈 πŸ˜•

I also have never had a problem with them. They are very good phones but apparently people have had problems with them.

the problem seems to occur in the ENS versions. If you have a non-ENS version, you shouldn't see any problems.

I had a 6230 and had a lot of problems. I got one back in june 05 right after the 6230 with ENS came out. I had problems with signal strength and freeze ups error messages like operation failed when trying to view a picture.

They are only having problems with the 6230ens, which has a different software load than the previous 6230b.

basically, its the newest instllment of firmware to the phone thats causing the problems. they're trying to improve it but one of the changes hinders the foundation operations. therefore, it freezes. thats is why the older models didn't have these problems. So if you have an old model, you need not worry. this is for the last two or three months of phones. they still don't know the exact cause.

But they said they couldn't fix the problem, that is why they discontinued it. And if they are shipping them back where are they going to get this "fixed" one?

think about it, completely discontiunued phones still have replacements. Obviously, thy're gonna stop selling defective phones to save money and figure out what the source problem is, fix it, and start reselling them. Duh. Obviously they cant replace it right now but when they hit the shelves again, that means that they're fixed and you can get the newer, better 6230. you would just do an xbm thru cingular

They are actually not fixing the problems the phone is discontinued period. Someone had posted that if someone had problems with the device that the exchange would be done and sent a fixed 6230. I thought I point out this is not the case and currently the only substitution is the moto V551. This would not nessarly be considered general knowledge.

springaf- please never post again, you don't know what you are talking about. please read my previous post. Here are some of the main points.

1. Nokia tried and they cannot fix the problem
2. If they fixed it, would it be discontinued?
3. My new phone (another 6230) is now still having the same problems.
4. Discontinued, means they won't carry it anymore and will not CONTINUE to develop and sell the phone or fix the problem.

DUH!

Thank you bluehfx for an accurate answer to my post.
Is it possilbe for me to be re-eligable for my upgrade since I used my upgrade to get this phone and it worked out a little less than expected? I would like the new 6681 (I think that is the number), but for the upgrade or new contract pri...

Np I am sorry I am not sure how the upgrades work I work in WSC Warranty Services Center used to be XBM, I forget if I posted it but we are also now offering the Seimans S66 as a replacement. If you went through Nokia they might give you a different model I am not sure but that process takes much longer. If you have insurance you can see what claim you can do if you like, I am not sure wh...

Anybody know how to tell the difference between a 6230b with ens and pre-ens? Is there a certain serial number range?

Anybody out there in Europe got the U.S. version they'd like to trade for the Eurasian version (6230i)?

Peace,

Here's the actual message going thru cingular offices, slightly edited and cut down to avoid privacy infringement.

"Effective immediately the Nokia 6230 will be discontinued until further notice due to a quality related issue that is causing the device to lock-up within a large number of our Cingular markets and channels. After several weeks of non-stop investigation, Nokia has been unsuccessful in isolating a root cause contributing to this occurrence. This problem is believed to be software related, however until a solid root cause is determined and a corrective action administered; We are enacting a β€œSTOP-SHIP” on this product. No additional shipments of the Nokia 6230 will be accepted from Nokia, nor distributed from our warehouse...

I have firmware 4.43. My 6230 freezes up about once every week or two. (A post above suggests that the problem is unique to the latest firmware-- that's incorrect in my expereince). About once or twice a month I also get the message SIM CARD REJECTED--- ususally a reboot remedies both problems, but it is an annoyance.
