Cingular rep/expert advice needed please

I am considering switching my ATT/Cingular to the Cingular only plan. Mainly because I need better reception in my home. I currently have the Samsung 426. It has been a problem since i first got it, mostly because I am told i 'yell' at everyone on it and I cannot turn it down. I have been wanting to get a new phone of that reason and I NEED better single strength in my home.

Two questions, will I honestly have better reception switching to a Cingular phone? And in your expert opinion would you think I would have better reception with the new Nokia 6102 or the Motorola 551?

Finally, do you think my poor reception in my earthberm home is caused by the ATT/Cingular system or the Samsung phone or both? Am I making the best decision sw...

What is your city and state? We have a tool that can pin point to the square mile of where you'll get reception. If you switch, you'll more than likely gain better reception, reason being you're in a phone without ENS (enhanced network selection). By getting into either the 551 or the 6102, you'll pick up this capability. What it means is you'll bounce back and forth between the ATT and Cingular towers much more easily. Also, with the 64k SIM chip you get on the upg., you'll be able to pick up more towers. More than likely you're locked to the old "blue" network and not able to pick up all the Cingular towers, even though your phone currently says Cingular on the display. I'm assuming the Samsung X426 is the x427 version on the Cingul...

hey, i have the e317 am i going between the two towers? Also where is this tool that talks about reception cause my calls keep getting dropped and scrambled where I live. I was thinking of getting the 6102 as soon as it comes out. I called today and my ETF is 40.00.

As far as i know the E317 has the ENS, but it depends on how old it is...if it was produced before, say, september, it most likely does not. Also, if your phone has the ENS and you don't have a 64k SIM chip, you won't be able to Load Balance anyway.

The tool i referred to in the previous reply is a mTIMap tool that Cingular Reps have. We're able to see Cingular, ATT, and Roaming partners. Saves us a lot of hassle, because we can tell the customer right up front if they're going to get reception. I try and tell them not to pay attention to our coverage map, but to give us their address and we can tell them if they'll be able to make and receive calls from their house or in their house for that matter.

I got mine through XMB in January...had nothing but problems with it since. Low volume and constant distortion. Some rep sent me Updates for my phone the other day but they dont help. If im in an atmosphere with a little noise and the person im talking to has a low voice, forget it, even at high volume.

At my house i go from full signal to 1 bar to no signal in a second as soon as i push the button to send or accept a call. I just dont get it.

I called and my ETF is 40.00...i was thinking of waiting for the 6102 and trying to see if that makes it better. Ive heard samsungs are known for low volume. Me e715 on tmobile was low but never distorted.

What would you suggest?

Hey can you check my zipcode on that thing and tell me what y...

I hate XBM, its one of the worst ideas ever...they give customers seed stock, and half the time they're getting another broken phone. Samsungs, at least the ones mfg'd for Cingular so far haven't been the greatest. When it comes to Cingular, stick with the higher end devices like the Treo, Black Berry, and the Motorolas, Nokias, and Sony Ericssons.

Sure, pop the zip over and i'll let you know how your reception should be.

14305 is my zipcode....Niagara Falls New York.

So what would you recomend I do about phones. Wait for the 6102? I didnt really like the v551, it was kinda heavy and bulky so I went with the e317 and look what I got. Three of them had the same exact problems....the e715 at tmobile was low volume but i never thought anything of it...i got another one, the 317 when i ported to cingular and wham...even worse and now distorted and cant hold a signal for anything..tried to use it at a softball game where there was very little noise compared to other events and could barely hear. What should I do?

wait for the upgrade, you can upgrade 21 months into a 2 year service agreement or 11 months into a 1 year - sign up for another 1 or 2 years and get the corresponding discount. ORRRR, you can do an exception upgrade 6 months into contract if you're in good standing. You'll HAVE to sign for 2 years, and you'll only get the 1 year discounted price. If you can though, at least wait until Sept. 1st, we're going to be releasing some killer phones.

Hate to tell you, but Niagra Falls is completely saturated with cell signal. It's your phone. However, your registration to the network may have failed. Turn your phone off at least once a day. Also, Call up Cingular Customer Service, from a land line, and have them check your IRDB, see if it...

ok...sorry to bother you but your being VERY helpful, much more than when I call.

Ive called about my e317 MANY times, finally last time i called a guy sent me UPDATES, and made me re power my phone. Dont know if thats the IRDB your refering to. I had to reset my phone after the call because i was on it when i called...my aunts were using my phone for billing issues and they noticed the bad quality and the guy did all this while i was on the cell phone with him. Dont know what he checked i just know my phone said to power on and off after the updates.

I live close to the border to Canada so the ROGERS canada signal sometimes appears when my e317 cant hold a signal, but they remove those chares.

My contract was for 1 year because i ...

yeah, i wouldn't be surprised being so close to Canada that you had fringe roaming. but, according to the map most to all of Niagra falls is HIGH reception - giving in building, in and in vehicle coverage. Nokia, in my opinion, is the best phone to resolve reception issues. Not sure about the 6102, since it's such a new phone, haven't even seen it myself yet. But i can tell you the Nokia 6010 - which is our FREE to $20 phone, gets just as good reception as the Moto RAZR and Moto V551. So I'd say go for it....you might want to stick it out until Sept. 1st though, kick ass phones on the way - check out the Nokia N90.

As far as the updates, that is the IRDB...hmmm, the only other thing i can think of is that CARD, the program used to ch...

ok ill remember those names, SNOOPER and CARD, hope the rep doesnt think im crazy when i call. I just remember them sending me an update. How come I cant get a rep like you whenever I call.

I prefer flip phones about the size of the 6102. Any idea when the 6102 will be available? How about those new phones?

Hehe, i don't work at the call center, i'm an agent/authorized dealer. I HATE calling the call center and I advise our customers to call us first and not them. Especially seeing as how our call centers were rated second to last in the industry, by J.D. Power and Associates, only beating Sprint. Longest wait time and most retarded people. I sometimes have to call in 3 or 4 times on a single account just to get something accomplished. And they hate that at Customer Care becuase they're call backs and everything is supposed to be done with a one call resolution - yeah right. I'm not bashing all call center people, i've talked to some really awesome people there, but they're few and far between. Not to mention everytime i call i pray i get...

I was told the Nokia 6012 would be released at the $89 price at first. Is that true? That brings up a good question though, would a person do well to take it at this intro price or wait a few weeks/months?

I've carried all the phones and I'll vouch the E317 is a piece of crap. I used to love my phone and then when I pulled it out of my purse about 4 inches off the ground, it fell out of my hands and broke into 2 pieces.

Ever since then I've not recommended Samsung, whether it's the X427m or the E317.

In Oklahoma, the Nokia's tend to pick up better than any other phone. The Motorola phones are pretty good too...more the higher end ones like the v551 and the v3. I think the v180/220 are junk. Sony phones are the most confusing phones we sell.

Thanks so much Chriscell! I am outside Willard, Missouri. I am really torn as to what to do. If I leave the ATT/Cingular and go straight Cingular, then I am afraid I will lose even more reception at my house specifically because I am so rural. The earthberm home is also a challenge, but my family's health is ailing and I MUST have better reception in my home for calls. I am getting tired of having to leave my house and go in the yard to talk on the phone and hope the call doesn't cut in and out or drop completely.

So I am hoping to change phones (and yes the ATT Samsung 426 is the same as the Cingular Samsung 427). I am relieved to hear that this phone may be a big part of my problem.

I am also still hoping for comments on opini...

When i return to work on Monday afternoon, if it hasn't been checked, i'll check the map for you and see how much more reception you'll receive once you migrate over...which direction outside of Willard? North, South, northeast?
