AT&T talked me out of buying a new phone today

I went to the AT&T store to buy the new Samsung S5. If I bought the phone for $200, I would have to sign a two year agreement and also lose a current $25 per month discount that I already have.

A. Cost of new S5: $600 + $200 = $800!!!

Or, I could pay $25 per month for an 18 month contract and keep my current $25 per month discount.

B. Payment plan = $450

C. Or, keep my S4 and the discount and not pay anything!

I chose C even though I was ready to pay the $200 (plus tax) and take my new phone home with me.

Thanks AT&T, and why would anyone do that in the first place?

But why is it like that? Going forward it will be very difficult to purchase a new phone. It is like get a new phone or keep a discount. That's the part that makes these new plans suck.

in a way it kinda is but wih the incentive theyre giving for the 10GB plan and the price of most of th phones on the next plan you reall payin the same as if i as a 2yr conract

example being you get th plan fo 2 lines for that $130 befoe you do that upgade, if youdo he 2 y upgrade its goin up to $180 plus whatev he 2 cost is

next plan its gonna be right around the same of $180 give or take a little bit and only th sales tax up front and gt to change phones evry year.

it seems lik it would be dificult or a hassle but its really not as bad as it sounds. best hing i se about i is afr that 1 yar you may have a poblm with the phon but no longer under waranty instead of having to pay $600+ fo a new phone o $200 fo an insurance claim you j...

I have a hard time with this with many customers. What AT&T and the other wireless carriers are doing is lowering the monthly cost for service and when you need equipment (phones) you can finance with no intrest or money down.

Its like Metro PCS, Straight Talk and the other prepaid carriers but instead of paying full retail price upfront you can pay over time.

Check out http://wirelessconsultant.net with a breakdown of the Next program and the new plan
