What people don't realize

Ever since the news broke out that the S5 will be coming out people were disappointed that three was not enough amo in the phone to switch from the S4. There is a reason for that. Samsungs goal was to to sway away S4 to the S5. Remember phone companies base their production on 2 year contracts. Therefore rather than S4 users they are appealing to the S2 or S3 users. For them the S5 will be a big deal and a huge upgrade. Same thing goes for Apple when the go to Iphone 5 to 5S users were not wowed. The reason is because the Iphone 5 user is is not ready for an upgrade until the 6 comes out. That is when the difference is huge.

yes that does make sense but why dont more manufactuers do this? and this would be the first time samsung has really done so.
it would make them lose sales though as well because a lot of people upgrade every year, especially now with everyone having options for earlier upgrades now with edge/next/jump etc

Most manufacture do this practice. It is just less obvious at times. As for companies potentially losing money because they don't do a complete over is not a factor. Because they don't lose money. As many people who were going to do an upgrade will they just act like they won't. Even though it is not a complete overhaul the S5 still has many new and better offerings than the S4 for those that carefully read the specs. Also remember this frequent upgrades is a new process. Maybe in the near future manufactures will up their specs big time.Ultimately people will want the latest greatest gadgets. Therefore in conclusion if you love the S4 and desperately need an upgrade most will still likely choose the S5.

People want options with the phones. They were in 2yr contracts and felt traped. Now they have Next, full retail and they can trade in some older phones to subsidize the new phone..

I seriously doubt that Verizon just purchased Vodafone stake in Verizon wireless and is doing a large hiring.
