Having not yet traveled with my GSM phone, I cannot speak to the 'optimism' part. If you have questions about a specific region, stop in to visit your local Cingular rep and ask to see the actual coverage for that area.

The GSM coverage map includes roaming agreements. Customers may or may not be charged roaming, depending on their plan.

I am wildly encouraged by the new map -- the previous brochure-map, printed in August, showed what I call "spiderweb" coverage. This is a much easier sell.
