Upcoming AT&T Feature Phones

DocAlchemy

Good day all.

Has anyone heard of any low-mid-high level feature phones that will be released by AT&T soon?

Has AT&T completely written off their feature phone market?

Haven't heard anything, and as time goes on we're seeing less and less feature phone releases and more smartphones. I think AT&T and Verizon are both pushing feature and basic phones to the side, leaving those for cheaper services.

Thought he was talking about some new messaging phone I haven't heard about! I know about the Lumia 900, hoping to get one later on (depending on how the market looks around the end of June).

Also, the HTC Titan II is supposed to come out in a couple days too, but that's another Windows smartphone.

In concerns to the lumia being outdated? As is the Titan II, the Lumia is also windows (this I assume you know :wink🙂 but just would like to point out the rollout of windows phones has been very slow. This is good, as it keeps the lineup clear of the headache android brings with new flagships every month. I would bet money the lumia will still be top notch windows phone through the remainder of the year.

Yeah, I know both are Windows. The Windows platform intrigues me, especially how Apple and Android fanbois bash it.

I'm more talking about maybe the iPhone 5 or another flagship Android device catching my eye. I'm not a fanboi of anything in particular, but I don't dislike anything either. They're all good to me (except BlackBerry, not a huge fan).

Thanks for all the responces.

I can't believe AT&T is going to leave a big size of their customer base(feature phone users) out to pasture.

At least verizon puts out a couple of mid range feature phones for its customers.

AT&T better start grandfathering alot of old cell plans for customers upgrading to a smart phone to help motivate them to upgrade.

The overall problem is that the reason they're switching to smartphones is because the data plans are a large source of profit. Smartphones aren't cheap, and there's a reason smartphones on all the major carriers *require* a data plan.

I can. They are a pubicly traded company. Accordingly, their investors constantly demand higher profit per share. Thus, their business model is to focus on smartphones, which result in both higher revenues and profits.

From a business standpoint, it makes sense. As a user, it is frustrating.

Online it's $49.99 with a $30 mail-in rebate. It seems like the majority of non-smartphones are only available online with a rebate unless you get them refurbished, or it's the HTC Freestyle (which I rarely recommend for all the horror stories I've heard of it).

Unbelievable..

A basic flip phone with under a 2 MP camera is the only feature phone AT&T will release?

They want you to upgrade to a smart phone.

But when most people do that.

They have to change their data plan and in some cases pay more monthly than they currently pay.

Come on AT&T put something out for the other 50 percent of your customers that don't have, want or need a smart phone.

Not everyone needs an overclocked, unlocked, jail broken, quad core, bells and whistles cell phone.

True, not everyone needs, but appears majority wants.
I ordered 20 new activations so far this month, 5 were mobile hotspots, 13 were smartphones, only 2 were basic handsets.
With prepnderance of messaging the Quick Messaging sets are taking over from the base handsets.

They're not interested in keeping your business. VZW has gotten the same way: stop offering even mildly attractive low-cost options so customers have no choice but to pay more money.

Don't look for that to change any time soon. Your best bet is to find an unlocked handset from overseas and pop your SIM in it.

was released today. It's a slider with touch screen, $49.99 after $50 mail-in rebate. Which is another trend I'm seeing, new feature/messaging phones, and even basic phones are all getting mail-in rebates, while all smartphones have instant rebates (at least online).

So my LG encore ( which was released almost two years ago) is still( feature and camera wise) better than the Xpression that was released today?

Oh I have an Xpression to post on here about AT&T's current offering of feature/messaging phones but I better not post them.

I don't want my account to be terminated.

Come on AT&T let's see some high end messaging/feature phones!

HTC can't make the Freestyle 2 HD without all the software bugs?

Let's see some brew phones!

You have to keep in mind that most manufacturers design the phone, and then try to sell it to the carriers.
Carriers very rarely ask a manufacturer to make a certain type of phone anymore.

You also want to remember that most cell phone users are moving towards the smart phones. It's not that we as a carrier are pushing you, it's just what the highest demand actually is.

Brew isn't leaving yet, but it is on it's way out.
