International Roaming.

My contract just ended with verizon. I will be going over-seas for school on and off for 4-6 months at a time (Semester, break, semester, break etc). in Grenada.

Verizon has a notification on their website that says: Verizon Wireless will terminate your service for good cause if less than half of your voice or data usage over three consecutive billing cycles is on the Verizon Wireless National Enhanced Services Rate and Coverage Area.

Does that mean that verizon would NOT be a good choice for me to stay with. Is AT&T the same way? I don't want to rent a phone or get pre-paid international service if i can avoid it.

Any input?

Why are you interested in paying $200/month (or more) to keep service with a US carrier while you're overseas for more than 6 months a year?

Apple just announced that unlocked (legitimate) iPhones will now be sold:

Get an AT&T SIM to use here and get an overseas SIM from Grenada to swap out when you get there.

We can't provide you a rational solution to whole-heartedly irrational scenario (keeping US coverage while living overseas). If you plan to make more than 60 minutes of calls a month, a pre-paid international SIM will cost you 1/10 what carrying AT&T overseas will.

That clause is actually related to "off network roaming" within the US, not international roaming.

For example if you moved and area where verizon has a roaming agreement with a regional carrier and over half of your usage was on their network and not verizon's they might cancel your service. That's because verizon has to pay for their customer to access those towers.

Verizon charges you for international ro...

Thanks euroboy & depbluesky for posting this. I had a very lengthy discussion with another poster a few years ago about this very thing.

I remember reading that particular thread before I joined the community. All I could think was wow, are these guys serious? How big of a kool-aid drinker do you have to be to think that a big telecom is going to give you a free ride indefinitely on their competitor's network?

Thanks to you for posting this. I needed a good laugh! 🤣

I stayed out of that conversation (back than) due to a conflict of interest because I still worked for Verizon. However, in March of 2009 when that thread originated, you were wrong.

The off-network usage termination clause was added to the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service at about the same time the Nationwide + Mexico pl...
