Generally, depending on your rate plan, how long you've been with AT&T, type of phone and when the moon is full, you'll be eligible to upgrade between 13 and 20 months after the last time you renewed. Not sure exactly on early upgrades, but about 6 months for a pathetic early upgrade would be a safe estimate. Ask someone in a store or call 611 and ask what it would be for you.

To give you a straight answer, Jeliz is partially right. Depending on your rate plan, a full upgrade is available after 13 months on plans largeer than $75, and about 20 months on those smaller. In both cases, you cannot have more than 3 suspensions for non-payment during that time. An early upgrade is more expensive, and is usually available after 6 months. If you are getting a smartphone (Iphone, Android, etc.) the early upgrade price is $250 more than the regular price of the phone. For instance, an iPhone 3GS is usually $49, but on an early upgrade is $299. T regular phone is $75 more than the regular upgrade price. I was told that in an effort to "be consistent" for all customers they got rid of the 13 month upgrades, as well as offering additional discounts based off of how much you pay per month. Is that no longer accurate?

I'm not sure myself, I'm usually the last to hear anything, and then second-hand. They see fit to tell me nothing at all. Hell, the DataConnect plan changes always catch me by surprise... "Oh, got rid of the $35 for 200 MB (which is extortion) option? Thanks for telling me" or more recently "Dammit, where'd the $35 hotspot option go?!"

I had heard that around the first of the year too, but I still run into the 13 month upgrade often.

My upgrade is October, and the contract is up next February. My mom had her upgrade exactly 12 months to the day after we started service. So it depends.
