Switching Back From VZW to ATT
I want to get an android phone but am worried that It will eat throught the 2gb of data and I will have overages up the butt...

Many aps for social networking or e-mail frequently connect and check for e-mails/status updates etc. How frequently they check is a user adjustable setting.
Verizon should print how much data you've been using with them on you bill or on your online account manager. Assuming you're using a smartphone with them you should be able to get a pretty good idea of what you've historically been using.

I am using data on my phone 24/7, but I have WIFI at home and at work so the most *CELLULAR* data I have ever used in a MONTH was 240MB. I've been using an iPhone since June 2008.

Well, ditch Pandora and go with a phone that has an FM radio maybe, since those wouldn't take up data... talking the HTC Aria or Inspire, or the Motorola Bravo, or even the LG Thrive/Phoenix (tho in the car, where you already have the radio, that doesn't make much sense). You could also just download music and keep it on your phone and play it that way, which doesn't use up data.
As long as you're not streaming Netflix full-length movies, you should be fine as far as streaming YouTube goes.

so customers who love pandora and slacker (2 top 50 apps) and the most anticipated app Netflix are up the creek with AT&T and soon Verizon as the caps are in place at AT&T and later this summer with verizon. Sorry you all, your out in the cold, you are not to use certain apps because of poor network capacity planning.

It really has very little to do with poor network capacity planning, I think the reason the caps are being put in place is specifically for network capacity planning.
Cellular data usage is expected to double every year for some time. Imagine carriers doubling their capacity and doubling their network expenditures every year while revenue is only increasing at 2% - 7%. That's not a business model that's going to work.
It would be very difficult to keep up with the exponential growth and at the same time be profitable if all customers had cart blanche data plans.
Having a cap causes people to change their behavior. They use their data more efficiently: they add wifi networks, they adjust their app settings to make the plans work....

If consumers would educate themselves and not accept tiered data, Sprint wouldn't be the lone wolf...and considering regional carriers they're far from it. A churn rate in the high 5's would cause major change at Big Blue.

Ummm... tiered data actually IMPROVES consumer education because it makes people THINK about how much they are consuming- because they have to pay more for excess consumption.
Education isn't the problem. Entitlement attitudes are the problem.

They would change their expectations based on reality, rather than want.
The "cost of delivery" per MB of data over a 3G network is over 50x the cost of delivering the same MB over DSL+WiFi.
Power Users don't understand that. They need to! People need to start getting what they pay for- light user or power user!

Simple: unlimited isn't a tier.
If people want 10GB or 25GB or 500GB plans, they should be able to get them.
If you're only using 30GB a month, 500GB=unlimited.

I'm not anti-tier, but doesn't anyone believe that 2gb is a little low for a smartphone. When I had no wifi I was only using 2.5 and I'm only a moderate user. Soon we will have tiers on fios data as well and everything here will be just insanity. wifi's will no longer give that kind of security unless you live next to a McDonald's or Starbuck's and who is to say that they will continue to provide free wifi when it is all said and done.

My prediction is that we'll see some updates to the data plans immediately preceding the next iphone release. I'm hoping for revised tiers but we'll have to see what happens.

I use more data than most because I watch a lot of news videos. Video uses more data than regular websites. Besides my smartphone has LTE data over 700mhz, which can handle a whole lot more data more easily than crappy 3G. Video doesnt stop to buffer constantly on 4G like it does on 3G, so therefore I tend to watch a whole lot more videos cause it doesnt take a whopping 5-7 minutes just to watch a 2-3 minute long news video on 4G like it does on 3G.

The message is to stop being spoiled about data usage and learn to live within limits. I wish I had unlimited money, but too bad. I gotta work. Plan to do things around Wi-Fi if it's that important. I sat outside a cafe with my friends and streamed a bunch of YouTube on their Wi-Fi, zip data usage, still as fun as if it weren't on Wi-Fi.
And the comment above mine illustrates it perfectly as well, it's less poor planning and more that this is the best way to deal with how the demand is outpacing the ability to supply.

Which is why I got a 4G smartphone NOW, instead of waiting for one to come out that better matched my desired specs. I got the Samsung Droid Charge almost a full month ago, and I am now locked in with an unlimited 4G data plan, so I can actually USE my smartphone for multimedia.

If that stuff is really important for you to do over a cellular network I'd stick with something unlimited.

Just get a 4G smartphone from Vzn, they actually let you use data, unlike ATT. Use your smartphone anyway you want. I do. I watch news videos, listen to jazz on Slacker, 90+% of my web browsing is on my smartphone, ATT is too prohibitive.

my wife has had the 200mb data plan for over a year, and has all the push notifications set, she does alot of email, facebook, and web surfing and is way under 200mb. I on the other hand have the 2gb plan, I stream alot of pandora, probibly between 1-3 hours a day on the cellular network. I mkae sure im on WIFI whenever possible. I did go over 2GB once, but they charged me $10 for a additional GB and thats all I needed to cover the overage. Take a look at your usage, and make sure you dont have a bunch of apps you dont use with push notifications like the average consumer. that will all help save data.
