It's just a rumor. I don't see Sprint giving DT an equal voice in a merged entity so I do not believe it will happen.

It's all up to the investors, they want their dividends.

What about Sprint being a CDMA carrier and T-Mobile a GSM carrier, with different networks phones wouldn't be able to bounce between the two. I don't know what a solution would be to this but shut one down (probably the GSM). Maybe someone can enlighten me more.

Dual mode GSM/CDMA handsets. Sprint and Verizon have a few already. China Unicomm was running both a CDMA and GSM network and they sold handsets with SIM and RUIM card slots. It can be done. It is just more expensive.

I'm not saying that it isn"t going to happen, but Sprint bringing in a third type of technology could really create problems. Sprint has wrestled for years with having CDMA and IDEN and thier incompatability issues. For all intents and purposes, they are phasing IDEN out. I don't see how bringing in a GSM carrier would help them.

Exactly. No matter where they start both will end up with LTE unless they are willing to pay premium prices for handsets. I still do not think this is going to happen.

Sprint could potentially switch to LTE by 2013. How soon would T-Mobile have LTE?

Lol I just have to point out how ironic it is that this topic showed up in the AT&T forums and now it comes out that AT&T is the one who is actually buying T-Mobile.

I suppose it is ironic...

Sprint and t-mob have been talking merger for almost a year, but something must have fallen through recently.
