I am so sick of at&t playing of verizon getting the Iphone like its nothing. My sales goals for the month of January were ridiculous, I doubt feb will be any better. We are being to whatever about this. the next two quarters are going to be painful. I can talk about how Verizons network is on average 32% slower, and they cant do voice and data at the same time till im blue in the face, but when it comes down to it they offer unlimited data, we dont, plus people are going to switch just cause they think the grass is greener. We need to become more aggressive with pricing on our MIFI and aircards...sorry im just ventin...anyone else feel as I do.

I work for Verizon, and couldn't agree with you more. I think AT&T is taking the playground argument approach to this. What they should be doing is promoting the hell out of their product, even the iPhone 4.

Attack advertising isn't very effective over the long run. Even Verizon's prized "There's a Map for That" campaign, while leaving a lot of Verizon customers warm and fuzzy inside, had little effect on AT&T customers. And that was probably one of the most effective and catchy attack campaigns I've seen in a long time.

Wireless companies should be selling their quality and selling their products. But right now, you've got a lot of anti-competition advertising from all the companies. If AT&T wanted to plug the potential leak o...

i think it's funny to hear you talk about your paycheck. If it is setup the same way ATT is, you will make $0.00 off of a iPhone sale as a rep. Just a FYI. YOu will only make a commission off of a accessory.

I haven't made money on an actual phone since 2004. I do, however, make money on contracts, data plans and features, and accessories.

Obviously, there is a difference between how you and I get paid. I can make just as much money on an upgrade to an iPhone, with new data plan, and a few accessories as I would make on an upgrade to a DroidX, also with the data plan, and also with similar accessories. The iPhone is no different for me than anything else, aside from the fact that I should be selling the crap out of it like nothing before.

So, yes, I will enjoy. Very much so. I'm sorry your company doesn't pay you the way mine does.

Epik,

Looks like you get the luck bastard award. With exclusivity gone, perhaps Apple has decided to unclinch the fist of greed. Perhaps it is my loving carrier that is putting the perverbial wrench on iphone comp? Who knows.

Perhaps this is a conversation I should have with a fellow agent of the Verizon variety. I would bet the farm the subsidy and payout is on que with mine in the agent world.

I am actually excited Verizon is getting the iphone. It will be nice for someone else to share the barage of problems that come with this handset. Does the phone drive traffic? Sure. Have I made other sales because of this phone? Of course.

I bet you $100 you guys clog up itunes for us on the first few days of launch. Just out of spite,...

Not sure how or why Apple dictated to AT&T how it's own commissions are paid. Not surprising, just mystifying.

Epik,

I don't work for Verizon or AT&T but talking with AT&T employees and reading forums, Apple is the one that pays out commission for the iphone sales...and apparently they give you nothing for it. Sure you may get something for the contract you have a customer commit to (thats a Verizon payout) but it seems that Apple pays out the data plan and they give jack squat.

Maybe it is different with Big Red, but I don't know why Apple would work differently on it with Verizon than they do with AT&T.

Alright AT&T workers, correct me on what I messed up on.

I don't know how Apple pays Verizon, but unless Apple specifically barred Verizon from paying it's own employees (not sure how they would), it's entirely possible that Verizon is paying us commission the same way they have for more than a decade: from their own pockets.

I'm CERTAIN that Verizon has paid out and been paid with different products, but they've never bothered us with the details. I can sell a basic LG flip phone with a data plan and three accessories and get paid just as much as an iPhone with a data plan and three accessories. Part of the commission varies depending on the price plan ($9.99 versus single/primary lines), but not on the device.

It is alarming to say the least that these so called AT&T workers clearly have no idea how they actually get paid. All carriers pay on the basis of contract renewal, not the phone itself. Compensation is both paid out for features and accessories if you actually work for the company. However, it is obvious that the gentleman leading the parade in this discussion does not work for AT&T. At best he or she works for a 3rd party retailer with a suspect commission structure. Don't confuse the issue here. Verizon's iphone launch has yet to even dent our business. Verizon store 2 doors down had 2 cars in the parking lot for the launch. Wow, scary.

I think the point of Verizon getting the iphone was to stop putting their existing customers in AT&T parking lots merely because they wanted an iphone.

Like I said to Iselltheshitoutofphones, I apparently get paid differently than you do. I will be making just as much money on an iPhone contract as I would on a Droid, Blackberry, or basic flip phone contract. I will make the same off of adding a data feature to the iPhone as I would on any other phone I added that feature to. I will make just as much on iPhone accessories as I do on Droid accessories. Verizon is paying us according to the standard format they pay for anything, which I won't waste your time explaining in detail. A phone is a phone. I could care less what you get, I'm getting paid to sell you a contract and data plan, and hopefully some accessories. The phone matters little to my paycheck.

this is true, the phone its self you wont make money on, but you will get paid on the fact of weather its a upgrade or new activation, plus feature attach, and acc attach, im not sure how those other people get paid but they need to find a better commish paying job.

To add to that, a demonstration.

Samsung Intensity II
upgrade existing $9.99 line
add data plan of $29.99/mo
sell a cover, screen protector, and car charger
Commission might end up about $8-$10 for that transaction.

iPhone 4
upgrade existing $9.99 line
add data plan of $29.99/mo (required anyway)
sell a cover, screen protector, and car charger
Commission might end up about $8-$10 for that transaction.

Commission rates vary from store to store, this was just an example. A high-volume store, like the one I'm in, pays out less than a low-volume store on a per-transaction basis, but the end of month commission is the same. In other words, every sales rep has the same target commission, but different store reps will make more o...

dude if you can't figure out how to sell just because "boo hoo we dont have the iphone anymore" you should really take a hard look at the tactics you're using. obviously they suck. think outside the box man. yeah, we dont have unlimited data, so what? how many people actually need it? it's all perspective, what are you doing to change your customers perspectives? you're a pretty sorry sales rep if you feel like you need iphone exclusivity just to sell against what verizon has to offer, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

In order to offer lower prices to customers, your goals will rise and, in turn, you will be paid less.

Get ready to work harder every month to make the same check you did last month, that's been Sprint's game for 18 months. The goals just recently hit 'impossible to bonus', so corporate is happy keeping them where they are.

I have been in the industry for over 4 years working directly with at&t, the last 9 months I have been in the national retail side of things. January was the only month I didnt hit my goals, they base our goals on a three month average, December was a huge month for me, I figured at&t would take the fact that december is busiest sales month in NR and wouldnt make my goal so hi in Jan since people tend to spend much less that month. I figured wrong. I still think at&t needs to become more aggressive with pricing, in corp store I might sell 1 or 2 aircards a month, at best buy I see 7-10 verizon aircards going out per month cause of pricing. Not to mention countless verizon customer and at&t customer asking about VW iphone and unlimited data. ...

Its not because of the pricing, well could be because its the same price after the rebate. I live in the middle of Indiana and the local Best Buy pumps out 2-3 aircards A DAY! Its really not the pricing its the fact that they also bundle the aircards w/ a discount off the laptop or netbook. No carrier offers true unlimited data. Its virtually Unlimited because it takes a lot of use to plow through 5GB of data, well since AT&T is only offering 2GB it does make it hard. The biggest thing that could possibly effect the transfers is the 20 month flat upgrade deal that VZW has put into place. Customers like to get new stuff faster and w/ the removal of the NE2 credits as well you never know.

verizon is "unlimited" the data cards went from unlimited to 5g which is what started the cunfusion. unlimited phone plans are unlimited i regularly use 5-8g of data and have not been charged anything extra. it would be an easy lawsuit if they tried to charge me for data on a marketed unlimited plan.
