have him to take the battery out and put the entire phone in a bag of DRY white rice. It should help dry it out quickly. As long as it is not something like soda or something else it should be ok.

Sometimes using a hair dryer also helps. Give it at least 24 hours to dry out before turning it on to test it.

I've seen melted solder and circuit boards from people thinking they can apply higher temperatures for faster drying.

One time, we had a customer come into the store with her phone. She said she had gotten it wet, and put it in the oven to dry it, but now she couldn't get the batter in. When she pulled the battery out of her pocket, it had expanded to about the same overall thickness of the phone, if not more.

I was busy with my own customer, but when I saw that battery I immediately ran for a cardboard box. She was holding it like it was nothing to worry about, even with the liquid dripping out. I took her to the back to rinse and wash her hands, just in case.

Anything CAN happen. just very unlikely. Apple had a batch of iPods a few years back where the batteries exploded. The Japanese government forced them into a recall and replace scenario if I remember right.

That's the second best laugh I've had all day, but there's still those cousins I have to meet for dinner. I'm sure they'll upstage you.

Some of these remedies may work if it was just a quick dip, not really immersed. However, water and electronics are not compatible - device could be fried and nothing will help then.

If you've tried to turn it in, consider it done. Running power from the battery through the board with any water will fry it. If you haven't, the board is wet but not necessarily fried. Also recommend the dry white rice in a ziplock.
