anyone have any idea on whether cingular will change its name after buying at&t? i hope they stay with the name. i really can't think of any good alternative.

I doubt it, I can't imagine why they would. It's not an equal merger of the two companies, it's an outright purchase, so I'd see no obligation to include AT&T

Got bored with the AT&T forum so I thought I'd come here and read some more merger talk. Cingular may want to consider that the AT&T name as a whole (not wireless specifically) is the number 3 globally recognized brand behind only Disney and Coca-Cola. As well with Cingular being branded a very consumer oriented carrier much of AT&T's large business base may be uncomfortable without the AT&T branding.

Unfortunately, the "AT&T" brand name was used by AT&T Wireless with permission from ATT. It was not owned, and thus noy available for purchase.

AT&T may decide to extend that permission to the new, combined wireless company, but it is not an item subject to Cingular's control.
