I believe the HTC Desire has similar specs to the Nexus One just with the addition of Sense UI.

I'm !!STILL!! waiting for an Android smartphone from HTC that has a slideout keyboard for ATT!!!!! 😈

Theres gotta be at least one that has a slideout keyboard, other than the dorky acc Backflip.\

Check out the link about the HTC Desire coming to ATT:

Have you tried any of the virtual keyboards on any of the current Android devices?
You may pick it up fairly easily, I think physical keyboards are going away.

Agreed. I bought the Droid for the keyboard and never use it anymore except for when play Super Nintendo or Sega. The Swype Keyboard app is amazing!!!

Hmm, I think I will go to YouTube and watch a video of Swype in action.

I do have a ? about virtual keyboards. When your using the on screen keyboard, it takes up like 2/3 of the screen right? Well I am well aware of how frinkin anal some people are on Phone Scoop about spelling, so I like to read what I'm typing as I type, and if I type a certain amount using an on screen keyboard wouldn't some of what I typed start to dissapear? I like to reread what I type before submitting. Whereas on a smartphone with a slideout keyboard there would be more screen real estate to read what I'm typing as I'm typing it.

In portrait mode, the keyboard takes up less than half of the screen. In landscape, it takes up roughley half of the screen. I'm useing a Moto Droid which has a 3.7" screen so I'm going to assume that the smaller the screen, the more room the keyboard will take up.

You can always scroll through what you have typed, with keyboard still visable, before sending.

Thanks for your input. Even though I currently lack a lot of practical experience with virtual keyboards, I think I will favor landscape over portrait for typing.

And whichever Android smartphone I end up getting, likely it will have a 3.7in screen.

Btw, if I do end up getting one that has Sense UI, that means that it will take longer to be updated to newer versions of Android, right?

Not necessarily. Sense UI is pretty much just a theme that HTC uses on some of their devices and is just an overlay for the Android home screen. It's pretty much what Touchflo is on their Window's Mobile devices.

I suppose it may take slightly longer for an update to come out because they may have to re-code Sense UI a bit but it shouldn't take an excessive amount of time to do that.

I used to think the same thing. But let's put it this way, landscape=2 hands where as portrait =1 hand messaging.

Ok, I'll keep that in mind. I am so, so, so ready for a *NEW* phone!!!! I really am!!!!

The web browser on my N95 takes too damn long to load pages. I have no patience for it, plus it drains my battery faster.

Android has a free Browser that you can download called Dolphin Browser. It is extremely quick at loading a website and even allows for Pinch/Zoom. Xscope is another good choice and is great for one-handed, wb navigation. Just my two cents.

Can you make folders of favorie websites using either of these browsers? I like using folders, it keeps things nice and neat, like a folder for Tech, Movies, News, Porn, and so on.
Rather than an endless list of bookmarks.

As much as I hate to admit it your probably right about physical keyboards going away.
I'm off tomorrow, perhaps I'll go to a Sprint store and mess around with a Hero. Would you agree that the Hero is the closest device to the Desire currently out on the market?

What do you think I should say to a Sprint salesperson if they approach me? Obviously I can't tell them the truth. "AT&T is getting 5 Android phones in the 1H of this year and I want to see how I feel about virtual keyboards" The Sprint people won't like me spewing off ATT this and ATT that.

I've been using a Nokia N95 for the past 2yrs, and I don't have any 1st experience with any HTC smartphones. What is it about HTC that you like? Because in all likliness my next smartphone is going to be an HTC Android. I'm just not sure if I want one with Sense UI or not though. Cause I believe Android smartphones w/o an overlar get updated to newer versions of Android faster. Am I right on that.

i like the ability to alter or modify these phones. ex. update with modified roms. with the ability to modify these phones, its like having a new phone all the time. i recommend going to the

web site and check out what they have to say in those forums. there is way more knowledge in there. be careful, it's very easy to get lost there. with out that site not sure i would enjoy my phone as much as i do. i have an htc pure, but i dumped the att rom almost immediately and upgraded to a cooked rom. to answer your question about sense ui. it just lays over windows, has nothing to do with updates. you can disable it from the get-go if you want to. sense is just a different type of theme for the phone, again does n...

i would wait for something better than the backflip as you mentioned. that phone does not appeal to me. if your worried about going from a physical keyboard phone to a virtual one. there is no issues. like you said, maybe go into a store and mess with a few virtual keyboard phones. thats what they are there for. i always found it better to do that. the websites never do any phones justice. some look cool online, but in reality suck. others you may not be sure about are really cool. just got do do the research. i know youv'e been around here long enough and are pretty knowledgable about the industry, trust yourself. i don't feel you will go wrong with any htc phone. 😁 😁

I only want an Android phone from ATT if it's a "With Google one". ATT fcks with phones too much with their stupid bloatware. "With Google" would mean more Google and less ATT. All I need ATT for is a frinkin radio signal from my phone to the cell tower, nothing more.

it's very easy to load new roms. just check out the site and see how easy it is. if you can download a file to your computer and sync your phone via usb. actually you can even load via micro-sd card. that's about all you need for skills wise to upload a new rom. not hard at all. just go look and see. each different model has it's own sub-forum and each will have step-by-step instructions on how to load cooked roms. i even have loaded android on my windows phone. some things are not fuctional, like gps and some others. i have not used it for some time. i think by now some models work very well. that is windows mobile running android. they are quite a talented group at xda. just check it out. lots of phone geeks like ourselves, well me at lea...

Nope, what would I be doing on Phone Scoop if I weren't a phone geek? My favorite phone that I've used is the Nokia N95, that tells you how much of a geek I am. And I've been coming to Phone Scoop for over 4 and a half yrs, so heck yeah I'm a phone geek.

Att better start releasing some phones that can compete with the Iphone or that will loose a good customer base if thay haven't already. Im looking for an HTC w/ Android, large display (4' area) It seems to be a very long wait. I am sick of the windows versions. Lockups, errors, etc... I may need to look at a few otrher carriers. 🤭
