Working for AT&T

So, I ask this question sincerely: What's it like to work for AT&T. I'm with US Cellular right now (please keep the ribbing to a minimum lol) and I'm considering coming over to AT&T. How is the pay, atmosphere, etc? I've heard AT&T reps are union? I know nothing about your company, from an employer point of view. Please fill me in - I'm sincerely interested.

Quotas out the ASS!!!!!!!!!!.....

if u can get in an area that doesn't send landline... u will be fine ... all these landlind quotas are unneccessary .... i seen too many GOOD reps that missed a few landline quotas but crushed gross ads and features for wireless get canned due to these ridiculous landline quotas ...
i can't stress enough ... if your happy where u are at STAY THERE.....

ATT doesn't care for their employees like Cingular did and the Union is a joke..... !

The following opinions are solely my own and do not reflect the opinions of the company, other employees, or any labor union.
What do you mean the union is a joke?? Don't you have a wage progression scale that means you get a raise regardless of your quotas? Isn't the point of a sales job to make quotas for the company? While I agree that the employer/employee relationship needs work, that is what the labor union is there for. What do you think you'd be facing if not for the hard work of your bargaining team that got us our most recent contract?
Also, having a union means you have a voice in the workplace...after all, YOU are the union...I am the union. The union is not some ethereal entity that no one ever sees. If you need an adv...

If you need an advocate, you have one in your steward. This is my first time being in a union job and I dont think I'll ever go to a non-union job again.

So you believe someone else has you best interest at heart more than you? I don't believe that for one minute.

maybe attcares believes a union would be better at getting what he/she needs, due to the fact that its a conglomeration of other workers, versus a lone voice at the bottom of a corporate ladder 🙄

CWA is a joke. LicorShot is right. I left at&t because of the unrealistic wireline quotas. I would crush gross ads EVERY month, yet due to the fact more than half our customer base could not get DSL or Home Phone, it was very difficult to meet those goals... Especially when you have only Direct TV to rely on

If you want to work for another wireless network, check out Verizon. They have the best pay and benefits out of anyone. Also, the commission is a lot higher than AT&T. I use to live on Scott AFB in IL (Metro East). I know a lot of Verizon stores are hiring in the STL area. They even help pay for most of your college if you want to go back.

Sorry vzw fanboy, my brother recently took a job with Att and left his old company who you wont believe in Verizon world, which was Verizon. He gets paid more, has better health benefits and is in a union, so if anything happens he gets a severance package. Verizon had a better base pay, but far less in commission, and benefits werent even a question. He said overall, he likes the Att atmosphere better, because its more about customer service and less about being arrogant and expecting customers to bow to you. Thats his take from the inside. He works outside of LA.

Haha, Verizon has the highest commission and best benefits of any network. Verizon Wirless was ranked 7th in the Top 10 place to work for in I.T.

Sorry but, I have ACTUAL PROOF, not some article and too much time to make sure no one says something bad about every company I like. My brother has the paychek to prove that you are indeed lying. Sorry, why don't u crawl back into your Verizon fanboy love cave and leave everyone else alone?

Unless he has a higher position, then no. Verizon has the best pay and benefits of any network. And that's a fact. AT&T even CUT their workers commission this year again. You really don't have any idea what you are saying.

Ok yes, that's it! I have no idea what I'm saying! Why would I? I only know someone who has worked for both carriers and yet I still don't know what i'm talking about because I'm not pro Verizon. Grow up and join the real world! It's not middle school anymore. Someone posted a message about working at Att and I figured I would give them some TRUE info on it as a resource, but apparently because I didn't say Verizon is best then you will not except the truth. I'm done with you and your middle school games.

Never have any problems with strikes? So instead employees can be pushed and shoved with no defense? That sounds great! Corporations are not people, they do not have feelings. Unions force them to act as humane as possible.

More blanket, bs, biased, and untrue statements from our favorite troll.

No, the only reason they don't have problems "with strikes and all" is because THEY ARE NOT UNION. You can't strike if you're non-union!!

Welcome back, troll. Thanks again for making another post about Verizon that no one gives a s*** about, and where's your invite by the way?

They have the best pay and benefits out of anyone.

Both companies start out around $38K a year for sales reps, market dependent. Verizon uses a weighted-at-risk dollar amount for all targets on their commission structure, whereas AT&T has no maximum for activations and upgrades. Verizon benefits start at day 1, AT&T at 90 days, but AT&T gives you ramp up commission for your first 3 months IN ADDITION to what you sell, so this more than pays for these mi...

seeing how no one really answered your question I guess I will. I have been working for at&t for 3 years. The hourly rate is great im making close to $14 per hour, our benefits are awsome, I had phisical therapy for 1 month and didnt have to pay a dime. Commission could be better, cause our sales goals conflict with our commission, but I still average a extra $1300 per month in commission. Being Union is not totally bad, they prevent the company from screwing you over, the only sucky part is paying union dues, it gets taken out of your check. The cool thing about Union is everything goes by seniority. I almost get every Sunday off. When they ask for your desired shifts I pretty much get exactly what I want.

No matter who you talk to, peo...

Your post is a few weeks old now but I think I have some insight to help you out. I have been with the company just around two months, including training and all. This time has given me just enough time to start picking out the things I really enjoy about the company, and the things that I realize are going to be the worst aspect.

Training : The initial training with AT&T is pretty amazing. I had to travel about 300 miles for training in another state. The training lasted two weeks ( with a week in store separating the two weeks ). The company paid the dime for all my training costs. These costs include hotel room, rental car, gas, and even paid for ALL food expenses. Just some napkin math put their total training costs at over 220...
