The loud grumbles from the crowd at WWDC today said it all. MMS and Tethering available on the iphone. BUT NOT AVAILABLE ON ATT.. The second the iphone is available on another carrier I am gone.. ATT as a carrier just sucks....

Not sure I understand how this is an AT&T problem. Just about every other phone AT&T has you can MMS, and most smart phones they have you can Tether. So help me understand how this is an AT&T problem.

Apple reps said specifically that att's won't be ready until mid summer for MMS.. They aren't allowing tethering at all.. THis is directly from Apple.

Probably because of feature conflicts. You can't typically tether a phone for $30 a month. Maybe the Iphone didn't differentiate between features and allowed blanket tethering so AT&T opted out. That's a $30 monthly revenue they'd be missing out on($60 to teather).

AND we just dont know what anything will cost just yet... seems to me that they pushed this out quick to coincide with the PRE release...this summer is going to blow.. but be a great financial gain for the company.

Right but we are paying some of the highest data rates in the industry @30 bucks for UNLIMITED which isn't unlimited clearly if they want to charge more for tethering. What does att care how I use the unlimited data. It shouldn't be any additional cost. We already pay to much.

It has to do with the switch that controls the towers in a particular region of the country. These features are going to be offered at launch in some markets but markets like Indiana/MI will experience a delay as the switch is updated. So, in short ATT is not denying either feature.

Also to add. The amount of data that it would cause if it did have a $60 tethering plan would cause customer to crap themself with a multi thousand dollar bill. 5GB limit on an iphone? Right... At&t made a smart move to not let that happen. Plus Apple OS... well apple...

Directly from Apple? But this is AT&T side, is it not? So what the hell say do they have?

McDonald's french fries won't be extra salty until later this summer... THIS is directly from the potato farm.

Those were not loud grumbles , those were out loud laughs . Its a joke , you mean to tell me that ATT didnt know that Apple would be releasing the new phone with MMS capability until now ? So that means anyone that buys the phone has to wait somewhere in the vicinity of close to 3 months without being able to use a feature that you paid for, I dont blame Apple , this is a typical ATT stunt. Also I read that first ATT would be adjusting there data plan prices and now they are retracting that saying it will remain $30. A joke !!! Dont be surprised if they charge extra for MMS messages.

Crackberry, what happened to you? You used to post good comments about wireless technology and never get involved in the flame wars. Now you are nothing but a pathetic, hating, flaming troll yourself.

Let me clarify. I am not a hater of starting a flame war. I'm typing this on my iPhone 3g. I am an at&t customer. It's just a load of crap and everyone in that room knew it also. I'm also sick of fan boys taking sides and not looking at the facts.

i do take some cheap shots now and then, but i do try to articulate why i have a problem with at&t. they have they iphone but cripple just about every other phone they have just so their customers do not get to experience innovation at it's finest. even with their blackberries they pile on more service books than any other carrier. and a few of the service books they send out don't even apply to blackberry. and i understand all to well about them being a business and making money and i am a true advocate of capitalism, but their approach is that of the old telco mentality to force and take away from customers instead of capitalizing on emerging tech. they are constantly at odds with nokia and sony ericsson which make some of the finest phone...

does your phone have gps? are you allowed to use it for anything other than at&t navigator? just an example.

The iPhone 3G, BlackBerry Curve 8310/8900, Bold 9000, HTC Tilt, Fuze, Nokia E71x, Samsung BlackJack II, EPIX, Jack, Propel Pro, and Pantech Matrix Pro all have GPS and do not require you to use AT&T Navigator to utilize that functionality.

Download google maps on your LG Dare. Wait what? You can't? But the LG Vu let me... what's going on? Crackberry, help me out?

No. He relized the crap AT&T is pulling. Maybe one day you will find out also how bad AT&T has made the GSM world look. I feel bad for the people who come visit and Roam. I would be puting my phone on T-Mobiles network until T-Mobile had no service.

A coworker put it nicely once after a pair of british people came in complaining how they weren't getting service EVERYWHERE: "We have states bigger than your whole country."

You'd force your phone to T-Mobile just because you hate AT&T that much? Is life really worth living when you get to that point? Give me a goddamn break.

This is complete baseless speculation. You know why they call it a rumor? Because there is no facts backing it. Maybe if at&t had an official press release stating a price change and then changed there mind you could be angry but to get angry that a rumor didn't come true is infantile.

I have at&t with the IPhone. Have great service and have not had to call in to customer service but twice in the last two years, and was pleased with the service both times. My brother has verizon, and we were at my sisters house the other day, she has t-moible, and I was the only one who had service. If I didn't have at&t and just read this post I would think they were a bad company. So for the people reading this post, and trying to decide on a service and phone, I would advise you to give it a try and not listen to the negative comments.
