Well i finally decided to upgrade to an iphone. I have 4 phones on a business account and wanted to upgrade 2 of them. I get there and the guy says im not eligible to upgrade until august 09. I can upgrade to the iphone but it will cost $499 each! So you mean to tell me, that since i am a customer for over 10 years i might add, i can not take advantage of the $199 i phone. I have to pay $499? Thats fuc**ng ridiculous! I Im going to another store and talking to a manager...this is bullsh*t that i have to pay more than a non customer!

Dude its not at&t its Apple. They are the ones that make you have to pay that. Also if you haven't completed 18 to 21 months of your 24 month contract then you are not able to take advantage of the $199 price. Its not like at&t and apple have it our for you, those are the qualifications. It has been that way for the 10 years you have had the account. You should know this already from past times. I hate to break it to you but it doesn't matter if you have been with at&t for 10 year or 2 years. They don't budge on the contract eligibility dates. You can talk to a manager all you want, there is nothing they can do. That $499 price is just the retail price. Sorry boutcha but rules are rules. You want to have the status of an iPhone you have to p...

You signed a 2 year agreement on those two lines. When you did so, you received a significantly discounted price on those phones because you signed that contract.

You are paying the exact same as a non-customer who cannot sign a two year agreement.

With how heavily discounted phones like the iphone are, if a company cannot get a full 20-24 months out of the contract, most of them will end up LOSING money.

the 199 is for a two year contract. You are already under contract, so you can't sign a new one yet.

This really isn't that hard to figure out.

So what exactly do YOU do for a living? What are your profit margins in your business?

That sucks man.

Verizon lets the main line up-grade every year if they wish even if they are under a 2-year contract.

And most stores will let you up-grade your other lines early as well.

Like, right not you can buy one storm and get one free.

You could buy you one, and get the free one for the other line sense your your up-grade date is in Aug.

There is loyalty, after you've completed your contract.

That iphone that he wants Costs 500 dollars. The only reason it is 199 is because that is the 2 year contract price. he is not eligible for upgrade so he cannot get that price until he is. If companies allowed the customers to swap their phones out whenever they wanted, they would have them pay retail for the phone, which is exactly what they do.

If you don't want to pay retail for a phone, you can get a significant discount every 20-24 months when you renew your contract. If a company swaps out the phones more often, they will LOSE money on your contract.

This was clearly explained to this customer in this thread, and more than likely it was explained to him when he call...

I'll make this simple: I responded on the 14th instead of hanging out with people because losers like you decided they wanted to shop on valentines day, or more accurately come in and waste MY time going over the phones they already ordered online for their loved ones, and yet they assume it's my responsibility to tell them all about it.

Pro-tip: we don't care what you make. I could say I make 200 million a year and you couldn't refute me because this is the INTERNET. If someone resorts to talking about how much they make to justify what they are saying, they are almost always lying.

I really don't get the "loyalty" argument.

You already get a huge discount whenever it comes time to upgrade. Most companies are very good about grandfathering in you old plan if they no longer offer it, and if you are a VIP you get all associated fees with upgrading waived and a discount on ACC.

What do customers expect? Free everything because they pay their bill on time?

Sorry, I can't contact my loan company and get cheaper rates because I do what I am contractually obligated to do. I can't go to Saturn and get a new car for less than what others do because my previous car was a saturn. And my cable company doesn't care how long I've been a customer, my bill still goes up just like everyone elses.

you pay your bills on time... LIKE YOU AGREED TO. Your reward for doing so is your continued service. (your phone working) You don't get some special reward for doing what you're supposed to do.

The phones are free because of contract. If they are ****ty, you wouldn't want them, would you? The iphone is a 500 phone. Either pay the amount, or wait until you can upgrade and resign your contract.

In short, stop acting like a child who wants a reward for finally using the toilet instead of acting like an adult who claims to work for a profitable company.

you get an additional discount whenever you upgrade your phone if you are the primary line. If you do what you are expected to and pay on time, you get a discount on all acc and all fees associated with changing phones are waived.

You do get a discount for being with the company for more than one term.

Repeat business where you are losing money at every sale (what they would be doing if they gave him the phone) is not good business. The point of business is to make profit. you cannot do that if you subsidize every phone whenever a customer wants it.

sorry to chime in late and i acknowledge the fact you said you were willing to pay 499 for the device, but paying your bill is paying for the service you receive. the device is something to use that service. carriers offer phones for 2 main reasons, to make it more convenient for the customer and to make money off adding their apps. the iphone is a weird cat in that it isn't co-branded with at&t and they are just the service provider. even if you pay 499 for the device, at&t takes a hit of $50.00 from what they paid apple for it... when you can get it at the 2 yr standard upgrade price that is a discount of $350.00.
