b.e.k.

Dec 26, 2008, 7:20 PM
Does anyone know the criteria for getting an exceptin upgrade. I am due an upgrade in Feb, but at&t currently has some really good deals on some refurb phones I would like to take advantage of.
Thanks.

well referbs are usually only online. The only way to upgrade online is if your line is eligible right at that point. You might get cust ser to do it for you. But you usually have to have a good standing with the account and also be a good paying cust. Just call cust ser and ask them to help you out. 1-800-331-0500

I hate you.
j/k.

When I was still a CSR here I HATED those calls.. No, in general, the answer is simply no.

Not saying 100% of the time no, but I am saying probably 85-90% of the time.

yes, unless you have absolutely no way to replace your phone, if it's broken or whatnot, then we will NOT give you an early upgrade.

If you're wanting a new phone for the sake of getting a new phone, then you are gauranteed to not get an early upgrade.

you have to be 6 months into your contract. good standings such as consistently paying on time and no suspensions for non pay. also if you havent had adustments before it would be beneficial.

Exception upgrade only grants you one year pricing, the deals wouldn't be that great. A refurb today would probably be the same price as new in three months.

I was told recently in store and over the phone, that you can upgrade anytime a 2 year prices and contract renewal for $70 added to the price.

I was looking at the Bold, and told the guy I'm no where near eligible and he said you don't have to be. Just add $70 to the $300 and that's your price.

I called CS to see if that was just something the store was doing and they said no, they do it too.

I guess its a good deal depening on the phone you plan on getting.

When you first think about it, it kinda sounds like a rip off.

But depending on the phone you want and your upgrade status, its a good deal.

If I were you, I would avoid refurbs phones at all cost. It may seem like a good deal, but referbs only carry a 3 month warranty. 1 year is standard for all new phones. If you still opt for a refurb, be sure you add insurance.

Any store can do an exception upgrade. The main criteria is that you have to have had your existing phone for at least 6 months, which you do. Exception pricing is $75 higher than the standard upgrade price, but you do get your rebate.

It might behove you to wait until February.

We only charge $50 for the exception fee. We also give the customer the choice of a $50 accessory or the fee. The customer also gets the rebate. Good for me and good for the customer.

An Exception Upgrade is an early upgrade for a customer. The company has made and Excetion to the upgrade rule in order to keep the customer happy. To qualify for an Exception Upgrade, the customer has to have had their existing phone for at least 6 months, the customer cannot have any disconnections during that period, and the last upgrade that the customer got was a standard upgrade (usually cannot do 2 Exceptions in a row). The customer still signs a 2 year contract and pays the $18 Upgrade Fee, and, in most stores, pays the 1 year price for the phone. This usually runs $50 - $75 more than the regular retail price.

Not all agents do Exception upgrades, but you might check with your company and your RAE about it. You actually make abou...
