Called my local Cingular store today and asked the salesperson how much the v400 was with 1 year activation/new service...He said $249 minus $50 rebate....That seems VERY steep to me.....I've read posts where some cingular stores are selling v400s for under $100....what's going on?

thx

Here in KY, we are an exclusive authorized agent carring the V400 for $169.00 on a 1 year $29.99 plan and $159.00 on a 2 year plus you get the $50.00 rebate. We are the cheapest in the market area. The retail stores in our market are trying to whore it at $199 with a rebate.

That is a good price.

I am not sure "whore" is the correct term, however. I make no profit whatsoever on the phone, no matter what price it sells at. As the 'pimp' in the equation, that would be very bad business.

$199.99 for a 2-year is the price the company authorizes me to sell at. If I sell it for less, I get in trouble, much as I would for giving away cases or handing out 20-dollar bills from the cash drawer.

Whether or not Cingular is whoring the phones I will leave as an exercise for the metaphorist. I had been assuming they had based their deci...

I work for Cingular, trust me that's a very fair price for this phone. There's also a 50.00 rebate in telesales which brings the price down to 149.99.If you're intrested get one quick, they're not gonna last.

howdy,

i work for a Cingular agent/dealer.. and we have the phone for like 189.99 now and 50 dollar rebate.. What's cool about these phones in some places, for instance here.. A friend of mine and his wife went into a Cingular Corporate Store, and had been with Cingular for 2 years and you know the story paid bill on time and so forth.. Well the corporate store gave them 2 V400's for 100 bucks. NOW THAT"S DEAL!!! However, i did get two V400's for free, but that's different ;)....

If you are doing a new Activation go to and AGENT!

If you are doing an upgrade go to the Corporate Store!

It depends on the deal at the time. This weekend we sold the x427 for free out the door ($100 off). All of December we sold the V60 free out the door ($100 off). I'm also sure not all agents are doing the V400 for 189.99 right now. I suggest shopping a few of the local stores to see before you buy, because both agents and corp. can have good prices.

I'm an agent that works at a Best Buy to sell the phones and no offense, but all of your prices suck. for a new act. we sell the phone for 149 plus a $50 mail in for a net price of $99. some of BB's other prices are 3595 for 30, $0 after rebate. x427 for 50, 0 a.r. s56 for 60, 0 a.r. t720 for 50, $0 a.r. and they don't try to do 2 year contracts. all of those prices are for 1 year. how can they sell so cheap and some of you talk about getting in trouble for selling lower than you want to??

I am a independent Cingular Dealer in a mall right next to a Best Buy, and they try to send all of their existing customers over to us for ANY after sale question, even simple questions on voicemail, internet, etc. Best Buy does not provide any customer service what so ever for any of their phones, for any of their providers. I am a independent dealer who doesn't buy 100,000 phones at a time, so my cost to the customer is going to be higher. What else is going to to be higher for a customer that buys from me?? Their level of satisfaction, and customer service! While Best Buy is just looking to sell the phone and move on to the next victim, I provide an unmatched level of service, and my personal cell phone number for any customer questions, ...

please excuse me if i'm wrong, but you almost seem pissed at best buy and their reps. i'm sorry for your experience, but i personally don't do that. i like to take care of my customers as well. however, i have gotten late night and mid-morning calls before so i don't give out my number freely anymore. some customers don't seem to understand the difference between a sales person and a customer service rep when they have billing problems and what-not. i do make sure that all the best buy employees have my number and they are more than welcome to call me when i'm off the clock for any customer related questions that they don't know the answers to. i know we are not all like this, but how many are thorough enough to be on these message boa...

I understand that best buy may purchase a lot more phones than you do, but why would cingular not want the phone to be sold for the same amount much like Sprint sets the retail price at best buy? but maybe that's what makes cingular cingular... by allowing their retailers to compete in a free market.

Obviously, if we can't compete with our own indirect market, we've got some rethinking to do.

Much as it might annoy me at times, Cingular puts no limit on what indirect dealers charge for their phones. In addition, some direct channels get to offer special deals on select models.

Plus, I get to offer special deals sometimes, and the prices change as well. It's all very confusing. 😕 ...

It is the same way with other companies too and it is dumb! Very confusing for customers to go to Best Buy and talk to someone that is not a professional and yes selling phones is a profession. The indirect is the biggest problem in retail and for CS. Most of the time they tell the customer whatever they need to to sell them the phone and then when they come back with their problems the dealers say "Oh go to the corporate store". Gets real old sometimes!!

It depends what kind of location you are shopping at. Direct(meaning they only sell one carrier) and corperate stores pricing is higher at a Best buy or Circuit City etc. , due too they have map pricing. When it comes to indirect stores we can manage to beat their prices for new customers due too my location or other indirect locations are able to subsidize our equipment pricing. Your are still getting the same equipment and rate plans but for at least sometimes 50 or 100 cheaper. We are still making enough of a profit where we can offer you one of the top phones for for less. Its truly a best buy!!!! Deal. Hopefully I answered your questions. If they get in trouble thats at Direct stores. I have friends that only can go down to a certain pr...

if you are that concerned about prices, go to a cingular store with an advertised best buy deal and see if they will match it for you. - depending who you get, they just might. If not, all you lost was a few minutes of your time.
