Wireless Call Quality Problems Continue to Decline

Alltel, AT&T, Cellular and Verizon Wireless Rank Highest in Customer Satisfaction with Call Quality.

The number of reported wireless call quality problems has declined for a third consecutive reporting period, reaching the lowest levels in the history of the study, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2007 Wireless Call Quality Performance Study-Volume 2 released today.

Now in its fifth year, the semi-annual study measures wireless call quality based on seven customer-reported problem areas that impact overall carrier performance: dropped calls; static/interference; failed connection on the first try; voice distortion; echoes; no immediate voice mail notification; and no imme...

Speaking of call quality, does gsm networks get that echoing and static that cdma gets. I live in phoenix and am thinking of switching to att and was just wondering. It seems to me that JD Power rates att low always, but if you go into a verizon store there are more people at the customer service desk returning phones or complaining about something that does not work?
I wonder how they get their info?

static does not happen on any digital network. And GSM to me is like talking from the bottom of a tin can. Sounds distant and garbled. I hate it but that is me.

Maybe you never had a cdma phone.

CDMA is digital Period. AMPS is analog which a CDMA phone if its trimode can pick up amps. But only if you are on amps and not digital will you get static!

well after being with them since 1999 they up and changed my plan without telling me until I got a bill that was 60 more a month. Then refused to fix it. My plan was 2000 anytime free second phone with unl internet and messaging. They deleted the unlimited messaging and internet on both phones and replaced it with 30.00 a month for each phone. So needless to say I parted ways with them. They had their reasons and I understand them but I phone call or letter beforehand would have went a long way with me. But to change it and then the only way I find out is in my bill lets say I was really really mad.

Yes some of those older grandfathered plans were good, But nothing last for ever. then when you want to upgrade your phone, you have to sign for two more years.
I guess that is why people like gsm phones, just switch the sim card.
Well hopefully you were not in contract and they did not charge a cancellation fee.

They don't make you sign for 2 years just for changing your phone. Well sprint didn't. And yeah I was under contract but 400 was worth it to part ways with them after that. Like I said I understand if they had to change. ANd they fixed one part they gave me free internet but would not budge on the messengeing which was my biggest problem. They gave me 500 free. when I use 3000 on each phone.

The most important studies (JD Power, Consumer Reports), rank At&T near the bottom for call quality. I wish that wasn't the case because I would like to switch from Verizon to At&T (for the iphone), but what's more important; call quality or cool phones ?

If you mentioned a cool phone it would be a toss up. no j/k. If you like the iphone get the itouch. Same exact thing just no phone that doesn't work good anyway. But why get something with only 8gig when their new ipods have 80 or 160.

Everyone here is talking about AT&T versus Verizon and others concerning call quality. Call quality is also dependent on the handset among other variables. The provider is not the only criteria that determines call quality.

I have the RAZR2 V9 with AT&T and I enjoy excellent quality. No dropped/failed calls yet. However, as I said before, there are other variables determining that.

you made no sense as not everyone is talking about that. My reply was to a specific thing. Thank you.

And yes GSM motos are better then CDMA ones for some reason. However my response to the moto thing was to someone that has a moto on alltel which is CDMA. Again thank you for enlighting me what everyone is talking about. Maybe you should read what everyone is talking about and not just the subject of the thread. Thanks again.
