I know someone who 😉 used to be a cingular level 3 tech. Phones that you are using Unlocked may have poor service because they are not fined tuned by the carrier or may not be designed to work on that carriers system. Just food for thought

That is probably a rare occurance. I've used 5 different unlocked phones over the past year and have never had an issue. The only thing that sucks is I can't download any ringtones through the media mall 😢

I'd rather go with an unlocked phone captain level 3 tech.

Why not make your own ringtones from your MP3's & bluetooth them to your phone from your pc? I have been doing this for over 3 years. Doesn't cost me a thing!

BS! I've been using a SE k800i for 2 months now and it gets better service than my cu500, v3, zx-10 or any other moto, lg, or samsung I've ever used..

That is very unlikely. Most of the programming information on GSM handsets is in the SIM chip.

Unlocked has nothing to do with it. AT&T can unlock their own handsets.

Please get your terminology correct.

I see after reading that post why he used to be a tech. The only problem you may run into with unloced phones is downloading and internet. But most can be fixed with settings.

I've worked in both Customer Care and Tech too, and I know what the OP is talking about. Unlocked phones will work, once the proper settings have been maually programmed into the phone, for data. BUT if the phone is not one the carrier normally supports (ie sells themselves) then the phone will not get any programming updates, (patches, software updates) from the manufacturer, because it's not on the list of supported phones for the carrier you're using it with.

Back in the day I had a Motorola V600 that I got from AT&T. I paid to get the unlock code online and unlocked it myself soon thereafter. I never had any problems whatsoever with that phone. Matter of fact I still have it and it still works great! I just happen to like the latest and greatest so I parked the trusty old unlocked V600.

Unlocking the phone just allows you to put any provider's SIM in there and get service.

you missed the point. Since you unlocked a phone that you got from att it didn't mean anything. It is still supoorted by them since they sell it. But the one poster is right they will not update the software if they don't support it and it was already set up for data. They are talking about a phone that att does not sell or support.

We have been an unlocked phone users since our contract ran out. Since we don't use data services we like the fact that the phones have to be programmed for that. No accidental data transfers.

However I do like the Wi-Fi stuff.
