I started having problems making calls with my Sony Ericsson T68i today and went to the Cingular store to either get it fixed or replaced. The phone was out of warrentee and i was going to do an insurance claim and they told me that the only phones that they could replace it with were two discontinued phones the T68i and the T306 or the Motorola V60gi. They only had the V60i in stock and said it was either that or a refurb T68m! So i told them that that is totally unacceptable to offer me 2 phones that they don't even sell any more or a totally out classed phone.

First of all, you brought in a discontinued phone and are complaining that they are offering you a discontinued phone. Here are some quotes from Lockline the insurer of your phone:

"The insurance coverage certificate states that we will replace equipment with like, kind and quality. The insurance program is independent of the Cingular upgrade program

We follow a replacement matrix that is developed by Cingular Wireless and lock\line®. We follow that matrix for the insurance program. The coverage certificate states that you may receive a comparable phone of like kind and quality"

It seems that they are living up to the terms of the insurance agreement. They can't upgrade you to a better phone and are offering you comparable option...

First of all i understand that. My complaint was that they offered me 2 phones that they couldn't even give me. I talked to Lock/Line and they told me that "if the phone i have is currently unavailable that they would replace it with a current model of comperable features and price not go under the price of the orginal phone at their whole sale price." So going by this none of the 3 phones are even in the ballpark of feature. The T306 was released as the cheaper version of the T68i. So to offer that phone as the replacement to the T68i is no where close to being in the ballpark of being comperable price.

"referbed t68i"
The Cingular rep told me he might be able to get a referb T68i but if not he would be able to offer a T68m (the old ver...

I think that the operative word is 'wholesale' price. This may not have any relativity to the current selling price. I think you may be caught in a catch-22 in that newer phones may have higher wholesale prices and they are prohibited from offering them to you by the 'replacement matrix'. Calling CS may or may not help, but good luck.

Lock/Line told me it would be up to the Cingular product manager to decide what phones are suitable replacements for said phone.

As for the wholesale price i have a friend that is a autherized wholesaler to Cingular and he told me the price of the phones that have to pay. The price of a T68i before they were discontinued was $250 the price of the V60gi was the most expensive at $200. I think its getting close to the time that they will reevaluate the replacements being that they dont even offer 2 of the phones at all anymore.
