If I were to walk into the store and sign up, does Cingular allow you to choose what phone number you want (of what they have)? Thought I would find out while I'm here at work. Thanks!
...
You should have your choice from about ten phone numbers. If this option is not offered to you...ask the rep to let you choose from the numbers that populate during the activation process. I hope this helps.
...
This helps! I was just curious if they just give you "a" number and thats it.
...
ya we can go through every prefix in our market and let you pick from 5 that automatically pop up, or if you have a specific one we can try that also.
...
My store is usually kinda slow, so I generally let them choose until they find one they like. Or I just find one that's really easy and ask if that one is okay.
...
This is not true at all. When i activated my phone, the rep told me it was $30 or $36 to be able to choose a number. if not i just get a number and thats it. luckily i ended up with a really easy number generated by the computer. The only problem is i get about 2 calls every day for FRANK who apparently is a dead beat. I have to tell all the collectors the number was assigned to me just last month.

your rep was lying p.s.
...
Man that rep was trying to rip you off. 36 dollars to choose a number. man im gonna use that in my store to make some extra cash. you can pretty much choose any number you want. as long as its available we can get any number.
...
This was a Cingular Corp. store. He looked be straight in the eye and said it would be 30 or 36 bucks. Are you guys allowed to make up fees? Man that really burns me. The good news is that the cingular store is 1 mile from my house, i am printing this fourm and taking it to him..lol I want to see what other lies he is going to say.
Anyway, atleast been very happy with Cingular Service so thats good news
...
the only thing i can think of was he was talkin about the 36 dollar activation fee if you start a new plan. other than that there should not be any fees involved in wanting to choose your own number. also as indirects i know i can make up fees if i want to like transfer numbers or help answer questions but we dont. some people do though. but corporate cingular also charges more for stuff then we do. i know if i actually feel like selling a sim card i do it for 25 but corporate is 35. and to transfer numbers its 25 through corporate i usually do it free but if i charge its only 10 bucks. so i dont know ill tell you this. he was definatly trying to get some money out of you.
...
It is possible that he had just chosen a number without asking you and then realized to let you pick your own it would be $36 to change. Which he could have waived if he told CC that is was his fault.
...
In my market cingular does charge you if you want to look for a easier number they call it vanity numbers , but i usually try to get the best number possible for my nice customers with out the fee, plus we dont charge for phone-book transfers for our customers, and if you loss a sim its only $25.00 to replace . 😁
...
well i guess my market in washington rips people off more than yours. I know i actually prefer the corporate charges those prices it send more customers into my store cause i "hook them up" hahahaha

We use pos.com1 and it just generates a number for us and if we pick to choose a number there is a $25 fee added to the bill and there is no way for us to get around it.
...
wow thats nuts we use pos 2 and it lets us pick whatever number our heart desires
...
why in the world would you guys use pos1??? we use pos 2 also

Yeah, I have no idea why we still use it. I will be a wonderful day when we go to something else. 😕

Ok...to update, i took yesterdays posts to this guy at the local Cingular Corp. Store. I showed it to him and he could not believe it. He again stated that there was a charge (25, i said 30/36 yesterday) to choose your number. He also asked his manager to tell me the same thing. The guy is a pretty nice person and said that it has always been 25 to choose your number. Luckily the computer had already picked a easy number for me.
PS "for my trouble, the manager said i could pick a car charger or case for freeee.... I had already bought a charger and case so i just said thanks buy no thanks. I did appreciate the offer though.
Look, after this do you think i would leave Cingular. Not for a long time. Thanks
...
we always give out car chargers for free I think cost is about 2.99 ;) and we charge 20 - 25

that's a Verizon Wireless phone
wrong forum buddy! 😎

Question: I was "thinking" about purchasing a Motorola RAZR MAXX through either a couple of websites. Would I still be a "good" customer if I were to bring this phone to your store and sign up as a new Cingular customer with a new number? Many thanks!! 😁
...
As long as you don't have it hooked up with a contract, you would be a GREAT customer. If we activate the phone, give you a #, etc any rep would love to get own phone acts. all day long!! 🤤
...
I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but which outlet should I go to? For example, a corporate-owned store, or authorized agent? 😁
...
Does Cingular charge anything if I need to do an exchange? I have had the phone about 4 months. When I was with T-Mobile the use to charge me for shipping.
...
What is sad is that six months ago you could call in about people calling for Frank and Cingular would waive the number change fee of $36 but now they refuse to do it. There are too many auto generated premium text and collection accounts for this to be concidered fair. 👿
...
i'd be willing to change it for you no charge if i can. i have access to all billing systems, so it shouldn't be a problem. i've never changed a number for an out-of-market customer, but i can't forsee it being a problem. PM me if you want.

your rep was not lying!!!!!!!, basically at least in the system i use...if it is a new primary line the comp lets us pick the number...well with a new primary line the activation fee is guess what $36...and we usually have around 100 numbers to chose from....if you are adding as a secondary line to a family talk plan then the activation fee is $26 and we are not able to chose from the numbers
...
well then i guess that is one plus of being a dealer not a core store. we get to choose the number in any situation. i mean its still limited but i usually get around 100 numbers or so.
...
At our stores we allow our customers to choose from a pool of available numbers. So, yes. This can be done.
