Phone with great reception

neednew

Jan 5, 2007, 2:33 PM
My wife needs a new phone anyway and I just upgraded so we are now on a new plan.

that being said she started a new job and where they are located show best reception on the Cingular service map but in the building (Which is actually a house) has terrible reception on the old V551 that she uses now.

What phone out there has the best signal reception? I am pretty sure she wants a flip phone but reception over that feature would be fine.

its been said that the Razr V3 has the best reception by far. my advice to you, is to get the V3 from a cingular store, and have your wife try it at work. if shes not happy with it, you can take it back to the store, and get a different phone (within 30 days). keep doing that until you find one that is satisfactory.

Any NOKIA is by far the best for getting reception they are cingulars most reliable phones. It is a little known fact that NOKIA manufactures 3/4 of the worlds cell tower(receivers and repeaters) technology at least for GSM. It is natural that their devices will work better and be more compatible with there own technology. The nokia 6010 in fact which is one of their longest running phones next to the 5100 series is tried and true to its reception abilities. One thing I've noticed with the V3 when I had one is its inability to perform in LOW signal areas. Such as big concrete buldings. Motorola put the antenna on the bottom half of the phone. Right where you would place your hand over when calling. In my eyes this was NOT a good idea. your h...

Sony Ericcson w810i. Ericcson actually is the equipment manufacturer for cingulars towers and we have found the the rf and internet runs the best on these phones. For instance, One of my co-workers had the razr and got no service in his basement. He then got the w810i and now consistantly receives 3 or more bars in his basement!
Besides that the nokia phones do very well too.

that's not exactly true. we use nokia and nortel as vendors in the carolina's. it depends on what market he is in. ericsson is only used for UMTS/HSDPA here. but i have to agree on the sony's getting better signal than the motorola! the v3 is no where near as good as my s710 or w600.

yep, different vendors use different cabinets. you can look at the cabinet and tell by the style who the vendor is.

does nokia work better with siemens/nokia ground equipment and moto and sony work better with ericsson equipment? if you don't have much info on other markets that's cool, but from what you know does certain phones work better with ground than others and is there any that work better on all than others.

i haven't noticed a difference. we were all nortel up until last year when we swapped most sites out for nokia equipment. the nokias are always better on whatever vendor you use. motorola seems to be bad everywhere, no matter what vendor running. i don't think there is a correlation between the site vendor and the manufacture of the handset, but i've really on had experience in my market.

cool... i know my v551 and v3 worked better in mississippi (1900) better than up here (850), and my 6102i works better than anything here, there and in WI where my mom is living. i really need to learn more about the actual network...

My advic: Whatever kind you get, get one with an external antenna. I've never personally seen a phone with an internal antenna that was worth a plug nickel reception wise.

I thought that too until sprint launched the M1. I think sanyo may have figured the whole internal thing out. I get better reception then people with an antenna that they can pull out!

True, my Treo 700w (external) is way better than My motorola Q (internal). Yes, these are not Cingular phones, but it further proves the point.

you must not be a GSM customer. internal antennas on GSM is way better than external one. candybar GSM phones with internal antennas are the best on the market. why do you think nokia is known for great RF? 😉

I agree about the antenna. The benefit of the external antenna is that it does not cook your brain quite as much as the internal ones, but as to connection, the internal one on my LG CU500 is fine.

My LG CU500 has great reception. I had been loyal to Motorola since I live in Schaumburg, but I switched to the LG500 because of it's reputation for good call volume. Yes, the call volume is good, but my big surprise was the reception. I was able to drive through what I thought were dead zones and not disconnect. I never could do that with my old Motorola or my wife's Nokia.

that's interesting i hate my cu500. lg has yet to make a phone with a great radio. my v3 gets better signal and i do NOT like motorola! my 8525 has been the best that i've used thus far. it works in my parents house and NOTHING works there! 😁
